Ive heard the M series motors are the way to go.. Due to the huge support for the conversion kits avail.. more torque also.. which is what you want.

I personally have seen a number of conversions of a 1g into a hilux. One by the lesser respected - racecraft - and one by a independant guy. I know these things go nana's in a hilux, I would say go for it. Small ute with a light weight motor. Hrm, I can't seem to see the downside.

TOURQUE
i got caught up in this argument no less than 3 weeks ago.
SUMMARY: 1ggte likes to rev its tits off, and doest hit maximal tourque til late in the rmp range. M series, tourque from the get go. similar power outputs on the dyno, but completely different to drive.

1G-GTE vs 7M-GTE
|

Yup. Similar power, but there are big differences which make one more suitable than the other in different situations.
1G-GTEs are perfect for light cars. It's much lighter, smaller, and more fuel efficient. And they love to rev.
7M-GTEs should go in the heavier cars where their torque will make a difference. The only problem for a 7M-GTE is that if it'll fit in an engine bay, so will a 1JZ-GTE...

Strad mate, the hilux racecraft have sitting there has a 4ag in it (cant remember, which varient). All the same im told by the owner of a fairly modified hilux that they are a heavy vechicle, well compared to small cars anyway, so i would suggest you ditch the idea of the 1g, there would not be enough torque down low to get that thing moving well of the start, if it were me i would dump in a 7m-gte.

The 1G engine will bolt straight into any of the hilux's post 85 up to 98 (RN85). The main reason are that the RWD Celica's share many of the part's in the hilux's. Slight massaging of the firewall is need to fit a 1G engine into the hilux. The Drivetrain will handle (diff) the 1ggte or ZE power or torque quite easily. (HILUX 2" shafts Vs celica's 1" stuff) and gearboxes for the 1G will bolt up to the hilux X-member and so will the driveshaft. As for the 7M a late model 1GGTE or a earlier model 1J (JA-70) engine would be choice, ie 2.0L or 2.5L turbo would be easly engineered over a 3.0L Turbo, plus the I'm not 100% the length of the 7M hence fitting to the hilux drive train. Also a 3VZ (3.0L) or 5VZ (3.5L) with the TRD supercharger (US) would be by far even easier with just a change of bellhousing (4Runnner) to get a bigger capacity engine and similar power to the 7M.

My friend has just built a 1990 hilux with a 1ggte in it. It took 10 months and approx $18000 to build. As far as fitting the engine we fitted a supra box, (original g/box mounts) 12mm plate to move the engine mount holes foward 50mm and two t/fans. Took a day of work and got it registed and blue plated drove it 200km's and got it weighed 1380kg. Then we were driving it to get a wheel alignment and a women pulled out in front of us. $15000 worth of damage.

My '93 2wd weighed in a 1200Kg. This could be less if I had an Alloy tray (close to 1150 or less) 4WD version?? have to be at least 1300Kg.

Are you sure... Because NRG in Sydney we're one of the first to fit a 1GGTE in to a Lux, Have detailed photo's of the conversion and it was outlined in Hot4's Issue 20 and there was no moving of engine mounts I'm definately 100% sure the whole 22R engine and gearbox bolts straight into a Corona and celica and I'm 100% sure that the distances between the gearbox mount and engine mounts on the 1GG's match this perfectly, only the height becomes a problem. I also know was the price of the 1GGTE's in 1994 stopped me from fitting one to my hilux which ended the same way as your mates.

This hilux was fitted with a 3y factory which made the engine mounts and g/box different. So yes the 22r hilux has a supra box standard. There was no problem with height as it sits very low in the bay and has single turbo and custom inlet manifold.

if anyone wants information on 1g-gte installations into a hilux, talk to TULLY at www.easystreetcustoms.com
they deal with mini trucks and they have done the 1g conversion and others very similar to it.

Fattony: The Hilux I'm referring to at Racecraft DID have a 1g-gte in it, I don't know which one you are talking about, but the one I'm talking about had a 1g-gte. As for weight, as far as utes go, I get the feeling that's like, and it has a light arse end.. All the more fun.
