What was the matter with it? Did you just get the 18rg built to factory or is there some mods in there somewhere?

the problems:
i get the 18RGU and went to put it in one weekend, that was 4 months ago, we needed to swap the sumps, the 18RG one was full of milky oil, dead headgasket, we pulled it off to reveal the headgasket was really dead, we pulled the pistons and found the rings were seized in, they had to soak in industrail degreaser for 24 hours to remove them. i got the head skimmed and pressure tested and put it all back together and found it only just ran, and couldn't pull the skin off a custard, we eventually had to get it towed from capalaba to springwood {30k} to the exhaust shop to get the old exhaust hooked up so it could then be taken to the tune shop.
He took the tops off the solexs, blew them out, tried to start it, no go, did a pressure test found pressures of 25, 35, 35, 75, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. got charged $100 for that too
i thought the valves may need to be reseated, more costs, turned out the shims were too fat and were just holding open the valves.
paid $45 to get my old ones skimmed, got it together and got pressures of 90, 100, 100, 110.
got another set of carbs from CROSTEK, pu them on and it went alot better, drove it 30k to another tune shop in Woolloongabba, left it there for 2 weeks, he rebuilt both carbs, did a new linkage and supplied another ramflo skeleton for $495, and just got it back on friday, it fuels up down lowand a bit in the mid and then screams up top, but as i said it needs all that shit before it can be FULLY tuned to a daily driver

I picked one up the other day for $20 and have started doing it back up to factory specs then a mild port and polish.
I have triple faced all the valves myself and they are tighter than a nuns %^&$%. The head has yet to be decked using the 8.7:1 pistons and balancing the bottom end. I have a set of lower compression pistons out of a geu which i will keep for the conversion to supercharging if it ever happens. It will be running solexes until i get it running properly with electronic ignition then it will either get a set of webbers (40's) or efi which i am also in the process of collecting.
Most people have one or two projects before they get serious and this one is going to be mine.
