I was wondering what would be better in my ae-92
Sticking with the 1.6 or going to a 2.0 turbo?
I was considering turboing a 20v .6 which would make some serious powe, but the 3S-GTE is also on my mind!
Please let me know what would be the best engine for my conversion!
thanks!

4AGE 20v would slot right in as its an 'A' series. With the 3S-GTE, you would need modified engine mounts I think.

Yeah so for ease of instillation of the conversion, easily the 20v would win!
But for power, i thnkk the 3sgte would have alot more ummmpf!
I guess if i payed the amount, i could strengthen the internals and put in some serious pressure!!!
What does the 3sgte standard motor produce???
the 20v na produces around 114kw i think!
It would be intresting how much extra hp a bolt on would add!
If anyone has done these conversion and can tell me, that would be much abblighed!

A normal Gen II 3SGTE out of an ST185 GT4 (1990-93) produces 205hp (155kw). My 3S out of a jap spec GRP A ST185 makes 225hp (175kw). The 3S out of the ST205 (jap spec) makes 255hp (195kw). With a bolt on turbo kit running 6psi you would probably expect around 150kw at the engine with the 20V. I dont know how much a turbo kit is for a 20V is but if you want strengthened internals, i wouldnt be surprised if the cost of the motor ends up being around 10k which is a lot to be spending on what is at the end of the day a Corolla. If you want something a bit quicker than what you have now and aren't really interested in performance go the NA 20V route simply because of the ease of it. If you want something with potential that will make a very quick car, and you dont mind messing around with engine mounts etc, then go the 3SGTE route. It all depends on how much you want to spend and what your plans are for the car. I personally would never bothering turbocharging the 20V because it will end up much more expensive than the 3S swap.
Just my 2c

mr nova in turbo charging the 20v to get some serious power with a good amount of boost, u will need to change all the internals as they are made for high comp and fast reving as thats what 20vs are esentally, so therefore all the internals are lighter and weeker in that sense as for a 3sgte they are renowed for the relabitlty thus being friggen strong (tonka tuff)and its already turbo there is alot more bolt ons for this motor and more parts avalible and they are cheaper also.
i have had both motors a 20v silver and still have the 3sgte
i prefeer a 3sgte as its fair superior is power outputs then the 20v and tourquey but the 20v was a fun motor that u could thrash around all day but then turboing it would cause al problems...
u should talk to V and E rigolis he has a 11 sec 20v turbo... but it would cost lost of $$$$$$
but i would prefer the 3sgte for the money. even though u have to change the engine mounts.... and more LOL
have fun

Yeah, talk to v & e rigoli!
Where would i get his no. from?
I have soon the little corolla, makes 400 hp!
Also cost like $5000 for the engine if not more!
So u think a 20v is fun hey???
Keep on going and going???
i would rather a 20v thana 3sgte cause cheaper and easier to put in!
But then i look at it this way!
save for a year, get a loan and buy a 200sx!
