Hey guys i'm new.
firstly apologies if the spellings a bit crap, the keypad on thi laptop is stuffed!
Well after almost 20 years the rona my mum and dad owned from new, has pretty much thrown it in.
the rona is a 1984 st141 with what was the 2sc engine. i had a 2.25 inch zorst, K&N air filter w. cold air induction, lowered and stereo.
during a long drive the engine has blown the valve in the no.3 cylinder. i have been quoted 1500 dollars to fix it. so i'm thinking this isn't worth it.
i was wondering if you guys could suggest a budget engine conversion for it. including price for new brakes and other incurred costs. i can't do it my self though.
so what engine and gearbox will fit and be a bit more powerful?
my budget will probably be maximum 5000 dollars. i know its probably not enough.
anything oveer 5g and i'll bite the bullet and get a different car. but the rona has sentimental value.
thanks

Assuming you're a bit handy yourself, you can EASILY do an engine conversion for $5000 on a Corona.
I blew up my corona recently, and my conversion list goes like this:
1GGTE Half Cut $2000
RA60 Celica Brakes $70 (bolt on)
EFI Fuel Tank, Pump & Lines $150
Tailshaft from RT142 Corona $65
Uprated Clutch $300
Custom Sump $60
Engine mounts, connect up exhaust, modify oil pickup $130
Radiator modified (move outlets to suit new motor) and recored $250 - could get away with $50 to move the pipes assuming yur radiator is in very good condition
And so far that's the total list of costs! I am lucky to have a friend doing the wiring for me for free.
If I had my time again I would have put in a 13B turbo, but the 1GGTE is a great engine and should really get the car moving.

There are lots of options if you're not brand loyal - the CA18DET is a *fantastic* motor. The SR20DET is good too, but only if you're going to do the simple boost+exhaust+intercooler... they get a little weak once you go any further than that.
Other options... stay in the Toyota stable with the 3SGTE... only problem is that it's a very tricky conversion and you're probably better off doing a 1GGTE.
Personally the pick of the bunch is the 13B turbo, just be careful on fuel and reliability
You'll have to check legality on any of these in your home state - in QLD you can put any engine up to 2.5lt turbo in an ST141. So yes a 1JZGTE is legal.. it's just a bit big to squeeze in happily.
