had my new car for 2 weeks and it had to happen - the first major fuckup
Bloody passeger side drive shaft sheared off today on the way home from work - metal Fatigue !
luckily for me - it wasnt while i was doing 100KMH on the highway home from work - but turning into the second last corner from home
Sheared off clean at the Stub axle not - making the Bearing collapse - and the whole wheel become a wobbly mess lukily the rotor held it onto the Strut and the wheel didnt go bouncing off into a paddock ..
SO - new drive shaft - new bearings - possible new rotor if the inside is fucked as well - and up to 4 weeks off the road if i cant get a driveshaft locally - seeing the st184 ones are shorter than the wide body Gt4 ..
2 fucking WEEKS old! So im without a car AGAIN and up for a good 500 + dollars more in repairs

the rest of the car feels fine - i think its just pure bad luck ..
i can see it had been broken for a while though - there was light oxidising where it had been sheared at the start .. so it had been exposed for at least a week or two ..
pisses me off cause i was hoping to start making it better this week - now that money has to plow back into making it road running again - and that part in particular - im lead to believe - is a fucking pain in the arse to get

I do have the shafts yes but I have no idea if they fit the 185!
If you find out they do i'll check and see if they are still ok!
Oh..That frog lives out the front of my house! I took the photo when I came home drunk one night

Don't forget dude, if one rotor is stuffed, you'll need to replace both...
If they are, maybe find some 2nd handies, check thickness of them compared to the min thickness allowed and get them machined...
And you can pick up reco shafts for like $100 each...
So it shouldn't be a massive repair bill...

Sorry to here bout the GT4 off the road already!! Know how you feel... everytime I've got money saved to add to the car, something else goes wrong - really shit's me! I'd have to admit, they're a bit of a handful, BUT I think you'd agree that they're worth it
At least the wheel didn't fall OFF!

Everything - besides some handcrafted supercars like mclaren F1's are piecves of shit that can be made better with the right dollars ..
Anyway - i like steves car - its built RIGHT .. even if it did cost him alot of cash ..
I could easliy burn 30K on a ta22 or a ra28 - but still have a car thats no where near as good as a mildly modified Gt4 for overall perfomance + handling

Im hoping it will only be off the road for a week maximum and not kill the wallet too much
everything else ont he cars running great - no problems so far with the motor or box - no diff clunks or rattles - the suspensions on the going off side but livable - and the doors havent fallen off ..
CAr will be fine to drive again in not too long a time - ill be back and boosting soon - just means i have to wait to start playing wiht the bits i want to play with

Is metal fatigue a nice way of saying I've just bought a turbo car boosted off it's nuts and I wasn't thrashing it.... much. I mean they were designed as a race car and should be up to a little bit of spirited driving.

Nooo .. metal fatigue meand metal fatigue
there were definate cracks in the metal thry the buit that broke ..
I drive for fun but i know what my car is capable of and seeing im new to turbo and not yet used to the way it kicks in unexpectedly on high boost i take it VERY easy .. At the time it broke i was lucky to be doing 50Kph in a 60 zone, not cruising at 100 home from work ..
Talked to toyota - they said this thing never happens so it seems it was a one off according to them - ie bad luck ..
getting a new driveshaft put in before friday so it will be back on the road asap ..

check out all the other parts of the steering and suspension just in case the car may have been driven up a gutter.
