can anyone tell me what the 3tgteu motor should have in the way of oil pressure?
and how much oil pressure i need to supply to the twin ct12's
(ct12's come off the saorer's)
i have 100psi on idle(oil pressure)
any info is better than none
thanx

well, the K series have about 40psi stock, and are often modded for 60Psi max (the relief valve)
a buddys MX5 also had 40Psi, as have a few cars i have known.
no idea what you need to supply the turbos, but 100Psi on idle sounds awfully high!! i would think that 100Psi would be too high for high revs!
what Psi do you have above idle and how are you measuring it? sure it's not 10Psi??

ps, i just got a VDO oil pressure gauge, so soon i will tell ya what i actually have...

Are you running thicker oil? what does the pressure do when engine speed is increased?

I'm pretty sure the T series motors should run about 400kpa/ 40 psi at idle.

stewart
definately 100psi oil pressure
thats all my gauge goes to.
well the needle goes further
evryone seems to quote 40psi is the norm for all motors
i'm gonna try one last effort-empty half oil out and fill with diesel to thin oil out, run for 10min
hopefully if there's shit jamming the relief valve than this will free it up
once again fingers crossed
thanx bud

what gauge and sender are you using? it kinda sounds like the sender is wrong for the gauge, or you have a massive blockage in your oil gallery. might be worth borrowing a different gauge to check.
please don't do the diesel thing.. that is all bad!!!
what happens when diesel is going theu your turbo?? eeek!
a normal engine would have maybe 10PSI or something at idle (i'm not exactly sure... in the mx5, the oil pressure climbs steadily till about 3000 or 4000 rpm, where it gets to 40Psi. at higher revs, oil is let past the pressure relief valve, so it stays at 40psi.
it really sounds like your gauge is lying to you

This is an interesting one. My 3TGTE has broken a std VDO oil pressure guage by winding the needle all the way around to the zero stop which is where it has stayed ever since. This means that my oil pressure is around 120+ PSI which apparently is normal. Note that if you use a non-standard Ryco oil filter on these engines the high oil pressure will split the filter and fill the engine bay with oil - I've done this once and it was not nice!
