4agte fuel requirements? Tue, 08 April 2003 02:19 Go to next message
I have seen a relatively cheap fuel pump at Marlows which pumps out 1.8L/min. This seems very low, is it enough fuel to feed a surge tank for a 4agte? What do other people have for both surge tank feed and efi pressure pump??

Your injectors will tell you the answer. Let's say you are running 440 cc/minute injectors. At 100% duty cycle, they are flowing 440 cc/min or 0.440 l/min. Multiply that by 4 (the number of cylinders you have) to give you your total maximum fuel requirement, 1.72 l/min.
Of course, you won't be running your injectors at 100% duty cycle, and you are probably going to run smaller injectors.....anyway, you do the maths.

will the return line from your fuel rail be going to the surge tank, or back to the main tank? what are you using as the main pump from the surge tank to the fuel rail?

vl fuel pump not a problem!
most surge tanks have a fitting in the top, this is for the return from the rail.
Thats how mine is setup.

If it returns to the surge tank, then you dont need the pump feeding the surgie to be anywhere near the flow of your high pressure pump to the rail. A VL pump will definately be sufficient as your high pressure pump, Your lift pump to the surge tank can be either an EFI pump (provided its lower than the main tank) or a factory style low pressure pump. No need for noisey holley blue or anything.

VL pumps are cheap and easy to get. If you want a second-hand one, you can pick up a JE Camira pump (identical to the VL pump) for around $50. That's what I'm using in my Celica and it's working great. Smile
