1st Stage (TV Series): 26 Episodes + Bonus Special disc for DVD box set
2nd Stage (TV Series): 15 Episodes
Extra Stage (OVA): 2 Episodes
3rd Stage (Movie)
Project D (Aka 4th Stage) in the making?
'Rumours' of a preqeul to Initial D? (There is a Drama CD already with the beginnings of the Akina Speedstars I believe).

Hmmm ... I could be wrong with the 2nd stage ... maybe it's 13-
It's certainly not 26 unlike the first one. It's been a long time since I last saw it.

katsu:
there is no "real" dvd's in australia at the moment because tokyopop have the rights to distribution in aus and usa
when they come out, they will be in american dub with crappy names from the arcade game (tak, cole, iggy, KT, ry, etcetc)
they are calling the hachiroku the "86" and its going to be very annoying with the 'dude' and 'yo' talk. UGH!
the "real" dvd's i have are from hong kong, and these are probably the same as the ones you speak of that are for sale
they look real, packaging and dvd's in japanese with english and chinese subs but they are just fansubs of the real dvd's
the only REAL dvd's are the ones exclusively in japanese and not subs, and if they are available you cannot buy the whle set for $120AUD, if you can id like to know where!!!
notably saying, the whole "yum cha hongkong" collection is actually pretty good quality and the sounds are awesome.
i got mine from eBay + paid $160 shipped for mine, AND i got a free trueno keyring yahoo!
also i have now volume 13 and 14 of DriftTengoku DVD's al in japanese, no subtitles
if anyone in syd has a DVD burner... well PM me please

Shop in perth.
Funfare.. i think.. gf goes there a lot..
they have a box set of Second stage.
@ $120.
DVD.. and subbed, according to the guy who works there..
and according to him they are imported from japan...
*shrug* havnt bought them yet so i dont know.
just what im told.. and what it says on the box..
i suppose they could be chinese.. but everything else in the store is japanese.. so that doesnt really make sense..
*shrug*
ill see if they have a site and then try to get a pic for ya if you dont believe me.
even in the japanese one they make references to the Hachiroku as the 8-6 once or twice..
and the books of initial D were ruined by american translation.
(tak, LOL)
Americans fuck perfectly good anime up.. once again.
ahh well.. i might get the DVDs once i have my car.. i dont wanna have to train it to Perth.. just for that
Peace

Real drift?
Most of the initial d guys don't do real drift, they powerslide, which is different.
Drift is very similar to rally drift, having all four wheels drift before you even enter the corner.

Even the ones from Hong Kong or Ebay are rips or copies however they are good ones. If you've been watching the fansubbed Initial D from a couple of years ago, you will notice that the copies use the exact same scripts from these. They are still a good buy & worth it.
If you're a real trainspotter, only the "real" DVD's come from Japan and are released by AVEX. They don't have any subtitles however if you're one of the privileged few who owns the limited edition DVD boxset, you will also get amongst other things a bonus DVD disc which includes footage of the drift king Tsuchiya drifting around a race track with one hand gum taped to the wheel, just to prove that all that stuff about gum taped deathmatch in Initial D isn't crap and that it is possible to drift a Hachi with one hand.
