Intercooler fan VS frontmount - Gt4 Specific Sat, 12 April 2003 04:57 Go to next message
heys guys - Ive tracked down a pretty cheeap JZA 80 intercooler in melb - dismantler wants about $200 for it - dimensions are 50cm X 30 cm X 3 inches thick

Im not sure if its a aftermarket or stock one so thats my first question - Is that the dimensions of a stock one

Secondly outside of the cost to mount it on the front - would i have better results from an Intercooler fan ( ie like alot of the st185's have done to them ) and better response ( shorter pipinfg )

than a frontmount of similar dimensions ..

I cant afford a huge bugger - and dont want to suffer major lag in response from too big/ too long piping

Yep that sounds about right. I can't remember the dimensions of my JZA80 coolers except that they're very compact and about 6 inches thick.

The IC fan really only helps fight the heat soak that occurs while the car is stationary. It doesn't help the cooling once the car is in motion. If you want to go front mount, u can't go too big because there's not much room behind the front bar unless u do some serious cutting. Most GT4 owners purchase a GRP A bumper to accomodate a front mount. If you on a budget, I wouldnt bother with going front mount and stick with the IC fan which shouldn't cost you too much. When you have some extra funds, see what you can fit behind ur standard front bar or buy a GRP A one and install a nice big front mount.

the Grp A bumper is on the planning cartds down the track - and i probably will front mount something when i have the funds ..

for now i guess the intercooler fans the best bet .. insurance wont agrue at that being a " modification "

they wont even let me put on 17's on the GT4 without bumping it up to over 2K a year for compro
