a couple of ideas for ya,
i did my 3K head myself, things like cleaning up casting marks, rounding sharp corners in combustion chamber, unshrouding the valve heads, tapered valve guides, increased bias for swirl, opened walls and roof of exhaust port.....
all relatively easy with a power drill and some die grinder bits. also used some 3M brand pad things that are designed for removign corrosion on aircraft aluminium parts...
anyhoo, i try to size my intake ports to get about 300ft/sec air velocity at peak power. for a 1.3L at 7000rpm, that means an intake port of about 30mm diameter.
the whole idea is to try to increase the efficiency of the port, and there are many 'black art' theories as to how it all works. if you remove obvious obstructions and sharp edges, you are on the right track.
do not just take it to any old shop that will 'port and polish'. what you need is a shop that has experience with your head and knows what NOT to do, which is more important than knowing what to do
if you are in Sydney, i can have a look at the head and give you a few ideas, but i have no formal qualifications as such... just a 77kw 1.3L 4K engine

heck, if the ports are good flowing to start with, a cleanup and smoothing is all they need.
i'll offer my services to help ya do it, or just show you what needs to be done... i just need to find some more of those 3M pads....
i'd love to have a look at another head with a view to improving it's efficiency..
go to
http://www.materials.unsw.edu.au/~sford/
and then click on 'head mod pics' to see some of what i did. i did much more to the combustion chambers after these pics but the pics i took didn't come out. consider the CC's 'roughed out'.
reasonably good views of the ports and guide shaping etc...
