I have recently bought an AE86 and I am interested in getting some opinions about what runs best in it as far as power, price, reliability etc. goes

personally im planning on getting a 4age bluetop and getting it rebuilt with some nice parts  sure 4agze with turbo will make more power but the ae86 isnt about brute power

I was going to write a smart remark about WidowMakers "its not about power" comment. But he did say "brute" power so thats alright. My take on the AE86 is having the right balance of power and handling.
Lots of options but from my experience I've had the 4AC, 4AGE 16V and a 4AGZE. I would take the Z everyday over that list. But having said that I am now turboing it
You could also look at the 3SGE or 3SGTE options but with higher development costs (engine mounts, intakes, GB issues etc).
What do you want to get for your 8K? Sounds like drivability and reliability. For 8K you can achieve a lot.

Doh! Seems like mum's the word on this one ... 
However I must say that I am a 100kw convert after Riceboy & I did a comparison between red & blue tops ...
I don't really thrash my car like his but his acceleration was quite good ... took me a while before the TVIS on me motor kicked in but by that time, he's already down the road by then! 
Now I'm in a dilemma ... upgrade cams & fit the webbers or just go get a Redtop?

Yeah that's my plan , blue top high cams new pistons and a nice set of webbers ... ya gotto man its sacramental i dun really care cause ill mostly be a track car and party daily driver.
