if you want to go DIY and have fun tuning, have at look at the Megasquirt
http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html
i have built mine and it works off the car, and it has been installed on a whole bunch of different cars and bikes, turbo, SC'd etc.
i saw one running an SC'd 22RE when i was in the US, and it is being used on turbo Audis, a turbo 900cc Imp (with lots of boost) a turbo bike was reported..
a guy in Aus is just about to order the components up (you get the PCB, MAP, preprogrammed processors and fet drivers from the US for US$50)
total cost for the computer would be between AUD$200-300 and the tuning programs (windows based and realtime with datalogging) are free, as is the support of about 2000 people on the Megasquirt yahoo list.

Oh yeah its gonna set u back approx
$400 for the turbo
$200 for the manifold
$$$ for computer
$$$ for sump mod if u cant do it yourself
$$$ for custom plumbing for pipes
$$$ for intercooler
Have a look here for a full list:
http://www.rabidchimp.com/mk2turbokit.htm
There was a story on the forum of someone stripping 5th gear in his w58 when he hit boost.
Alternatively u can have a 1JZ for $5K installed probably if you do most of the work. Would be a much better, more reliable option!

MzSoarer wrote on Mon, 14 April 2003 22:53 | I'm going to be going the way of the 6M-GTE hybrid
using the 7M Turbo gear ofcourse, cooler, CT26, plumbed straight into my intake manifold.....
To do this and run and decent boost i know I'm going to need some new managment.....
Its no going to be a mega power app or anything, the most I'm looking at running is around 8-10psi.....

Probably not actually. I direct you to Aaron Garney's website. He is running a 5MGTE at 10 psi with the std computer and has upped the fuelling with a Paxton rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Mixtures are fine and he's getting around 210 rwhp. Have a chat to Kevozr who has done the 5MGTE thing as well. I'm sure you are aware of the Yahoo 5/6/7MGTE group too.
I haven't actually done it, but the general noise is you should be able to get away without it.

I think he's referring to the forums at http://www.celicasupra.com; many of the Supraforums members have moved there.

Hehehehe...I just had a look around. I see 'Quick' is there. Maybe I should get a Mk2 (Supra) so I can join and have more trans-Pacific 'discussions' with him.

Hehehe...having owned only one car that was newer than 1976, and loads of tapes of era appropriate music, I suspect you are right!
And the 1984 XF Falcon will NEVER be spoken of again........

how will the stock internals really hold up?
I've been given the manifold already, and my manual w58 conersion should start soon
with any luck, soon my soarer will go how it sounds it should!
