hi all!

yes it's finally happenned... after nearly 12 months off the
road... my baby is back from the dead and purring like an angry
kitten Cool

what started off as a blown h/g and a weekend to replace it in
kinda escalated into 12 months and a full rebuild Rolling Eyes ...
lol ya gotta love cars

the engine got back (in lots of bits of course) from the
rebuilder a few weeks ago and i've been slowly putting her together.

along with the engine work and porting i've added a few extra
goodies including hks metal h/g, forgies, hi-flow turbo, custom
dump-pipe, arp rod bolts/head studs.

anyway... after delay after delay and waiting for parts and
gaskets and stuff (ya gotta love toyota parts prices... $80 for
a rubber oil hose... geez) the heart transplant happened over he
weekend and boy it was fun (not) (um... ok i lurve gt4s but i
aint gonna be working on one again in a hurry)

anyways after much heartache... pulled an allnighter with mos
and rod on fri night... went to start her... filled her with
water... and water pissed out everywhere from the water pump...
nooooooo!!!!

in hindsight i probably should've replaced the pump as i had
with just about everything else... ah well guess i missed that
one... anyway after a depressing halt to the work i rang all
over sydney looking for water pumps - finally finding
one in campsie (on a saturday... almost had to go to gosford to
get one!) which i went and picked up

started work replacing it in the car but pretty soon
realised that it wasnt going to happen and that the
engine would need to be pulled out again.... nooooooo!!!

by midnight we were demoralised and exhausted so we grabbed some
sleep (my first in 40 hours)

sunday arvo saw us back at it and by that night had the engine
out and the waterpump replaced (goddam dodgy screws)... pulled
another all nighter to put her back in

monday morning she started!! hoorrayyy!! (ok not quite
first go - um forgot the plug to the dizzy... hehe easy fix)

took her straight to the exhaust shop to get hooked up
to the custom dump-pipe and was ready to go that arvo -
finally got some more sleep last night

can't wait to run her in properly Smile

she still needs an aftermarket ecu and front mount i/c
but they'll have to wait for some more cash

mmmm.... then more boost Smile

i want to thank mos for being there throughout the whole
transplant and putting up with my stupid questions at
ridiculously early hours

thanks also to rod who injected some enthusiasm into us and providing much needed help

thanks to michael, joe, dave, joel, josh and karl for
their various help and moral support... although the night they
were all there together meant we didnt get much done... hehe

so who wants to go cruising (if i remember how to drive that is)??

Very Happy

ps. will put some pics up soon

yay Danny Smile I got mine back today too - it rolls again - not 3 + Grinding 1 Wink

Soooo im in " rebuilding funds mode " but i have a lead on the group A Nose that ill be investigating , and im off to adelaide on thursday to see a few celica/jap dismantlers over there .. Eyes are open for a JZA 80 intercooler for possible frontmounting later on in 2003 ..

BUT first - new lights , the Blipper security system - and some good speakers to hold me over till mid year ..

THEN the goodness starts ..

PS can you PM me the details of your cost to build the donk out of curiousity - Im guessing your still on Stock ECU too ?

Danny, would you mind letting me know what you paid for the HKS headgasket? I've been thinking of getting one of these for the 3S i'm building but was scared off by the prices quoted.

Joel

Joel,
Is your 3s a gen 3? if so the stock head gasket is pretty good and will hold 22PSI all day long. As per Neil bates

It's an st185, so that'd be gen2?
I've heard the st205 gasket will fit though?

Cheers

danny re previos question - out of all the new mods - whicgh were worth the most to look at ..

i may have a it of money to burn near Xmas ( yeah i know its early to plan ) so what yould you suggest looking at as the first one or two swaps for a upgrade - seeing yours and mine motorwise are the similar in model ( i already have a boosty controller *left for kittens and puppies , right for rabid rottwielers and pissed off tigers* , the custom 3 inch dumpy and the lovely little fuel voltage jumper upper wired in, and a heavy duty clutchplate to keep the gearbox from having a fit) cant afford the full forgies bit or porting just yet - but it may come

OOR should i spend it all on a fully siiiic body kit and subbies maaaaaaaaaaaate! ha ! shoot me please Wink

* PS - i found a group A front bar - yay! *

Congratulations Danny. Well done.
Hope she is everything u expected and more.
It is so satisfying getting your car going after such a long time off the road.
That first time she fires is like a magic. Then u test run her and drop the hammer. hhehehehe.
I love it

mmmm... well that will come down a little to personal preference... especially if its between cosmetic and performance

my general rule was that if she aint broke dont replace it

*coughs* i tend to break alot though Very Happy

i gotta say that i have neglected handling because of various engine woes and that is next on my list... and should perhaps be next on yours before more engine mods (the order in which i had planned to do them)

some decent shocks and springs are what i'm talking about... i've also heard generally good things about the suspension kits made by whiteline for the gt4... i'll be looking at them.

if you use the power you have more efficiently before you start adding to it then that seems like a more logical step

Tat whiteline kit sounds the bees knees Danny - for about 1500 fitted though .

You get all new bushes , a bigger adjustable rear swaybar , Koni's springs and camber adjustors i think ..

Whiteline have a HUGE write up on " real handling for your Gt4 on their site if you dig for it - if not - i have the page bookmarked on my home PC and ill dump it on here asap ..

Apparently the rear swaybar + new diff mount bushes are the best low cost upgrade re suspension they reccomend - followed by a good wheel alignment and balance - then the rest of the goodies !

Pity here - is that insurance companies like shannons wont let me do thisto my suspension , OR put a nicer set of 17 's on - bastages they ! they want to up my insurance to 2 grand + a year for full cover - if i modify any further - So i might wait till im 25+ years ( only a few more months ) and in the meantime - get the " looks " right - ie the group a Bar, stereo and alarm.

Mines not that far off from being a VERY tidy example - bar a few blemishes on the front and rear bumpers and a few minor paint scratches - otherwise its Straight as a Die , clean , and has no interior rips tears stains

yeah... stereo and alarm are an easy upgrade

i know i can't go without my music

let me know what sort of system you go for and where you plan on putting speakers

my system needs another further upgrade so i'm gathering ideas

ps. alternator has spat the dummy so car is 'resting' in the garage once again Sad

at least its an easy fix and doesnt require engine removal Smile

hmmm... gotta sort out a large power steering leak while im at it

Danny = at this stage im looking at a set of focal 6.5 inch splits in the front , an eclipse single Cd head unit - and elcipse 6 inch coax'es for the back - something simple - but high quality that sounds sweet - If my Amp turns out to ne aby good - i might ise it to drive the fronts , and a pairing of small subbies later in - though i dont think subbies are important - thats 600 + you can spend on suspension or go faster bits

rear speakers - in the stock spot behind the little grills - Ill be making the fittings on them tighter so they wont vibrate with bass

front ones are going in off the shelf pods mounted to the doorskins hoping not to hack the doorskins up at all if possible , just a few screwholes
