I was just wondering if Autoguide.com.au was right.
Dose the MA70 supra realy have a kerb weight of 1510 kg.
and it says that a 1989 HOLDEN COMMODORE EXECUTIVE VN has a
Kerb Weight of 1275 kg. I always thort that they would weigh heaps more.
Can anyone explain this???

luxury, safety and technology in a production car usually means weight.
compare the 2 cars there will be a lot of difference in features.

My 1988 MA70 Turbo-A weighs 1580kg. Had to take it over the weigh bridge for engineers inspection.

hey if you have a front wheel drive car that has a weight distribution of 64/36 front to rear, how can you remedy this? i know it would be ideal to have 50/50 weight dist for better balance but is there any detrimental effects for having a heavy nose on a front drive car? maybe it would effect steering or sumthin... i dont know

Simple things like moving battery into the boot, etc... and lightening the front of the car as much as you can.
In a parfect world in a moderately powerful car you want as much of the weight between the front & back wheels as you can. Obviously in a FWD this is pretty hard, so just concentrate on taking out as much front weight (eg sound deadening) as possible. Many race cars will rear-mount the radiator but that's far too much effort and money.

the MA70 sounds right but I would have thought that a commie would be heavier than that, that model would have air con wouldn't it?

Mine on the weigh bridge a couple of weeks ago got 1580kgs. Thats with 80kg driver seat, and a V8 in the front (and spare/jack etc. .. and still had the intercooler in at that stage, and piping etc.). I thought the Group-A supras were supposed to be lightened for racing??
And yes, they really weigh that much.

My car is the road registered version of the Group-A Supra, the homgulation model. I suppose they wanted to release a model that had more power like the race version , but still was a luxury car with all the mod cons.

I just don't get it, as it doesn't have the luxury suspension, or stuff like ABS and that sort of thing, but still weighs the same amount. Weird.

My Turbo-A has huge sway bars, chassis strengthening, a shitload extra suspension stuff. Dont know about this, but the tailshaft is HUGE. May be bigger than normal.
It doesnt have TEMS, but it has lots of other stuff.

My jza70 has weighed in at 1680 without driver, though it is listed as 1580 on its rego papers. MOdifications usually weigh more thn the original items, 17 x 9.5 inch wheels, Twin exhausts (both bigger than stock), 50kg worth of subs and amp, etc it all adds up.
Weight is irrelevant in a JZA70 supra, the sub box improved my 0-100 times. Its all about traction.
