I'm going to look at a SA63 tomorrow I hope, been on lookout for AE86 but ducked if I'm going to pay $2900ono for an average body '83 with the worlds worst interior condition. I dont know how the duck people manage to crack and dent a dash, above the steering wheel... and as if the brown interior isnt bad enough, its totally screwed.
I have a 22RE (almost running) in my 4WD, so I thought RA65 would be easy spares/mods wise, but I just got a screw type positive displacement supercharger for the 4WDing (ecstatic!), and thought the 3S-GTE would be a nice change. DOHC's and all that... the project/pain in ass wont be pleasant, or a change.
This example I'm looking at has gently dented front left fender ($450 panel beating repairs cost), rust bottom rear windshield/near lock, broken/hanging skirt plastics in places, small door strip missing drivers side rear, factory mags (yay!), silver/green paint good condiiton (like my friend's AE82 sedan, love it), popup headlights look OK (not sure if working yet), glass OK, interior looks like a chick who hasnt spent a cent (only seen car from outside)... its $1800
without looking at mechanicals, and if interior is OK, I think its worth $900... redbook lowest average is $1200.
I think the AE86 is worth $1500 (has classic spoke mags, not factory and a slightly better body...
I know the AE86 has the legend with it, I would like to hear some pro-SA63 arguments though...
any chance of lightening the SA63 significantly? I like small/light cars, not happy with 1300kg's of Celica, but thats one of the few con's at this point. Also the no-electrics low specs of them is pathetic, I doubt this SA63 has power anything, but I saw a guy's site who had upgraded to electric windows from wrecker's parts, so there's a treaded path with hope...

I guess no one reads my post so I wont bother again!
it turned out to be an auto so meh, wait for an 86 I suppose.
The abused 86 thinks 1500 is too low, so meh again.
its hard to get excited about it all, the way it should be

bozwon, i think that $3700-$4500 is a bit over priced for a SA63, go to carsales.com.au and they price it at $0-$2500 which is more what realistic

true.. the celica may have 1300kg but it sure duzn't feel like it. The ma61 i got is quite a bit heavier to drive, the sa63 feels like a mini!
The sa63 duzn't have much electrics, but that can be a plus.
Lighter and less messing around if things go wrong.
I have a SA63 which i want a pretty penny for due to the enormous $$$s i've put into it. But i'll never ever get it back.
I have it in very good nick now but that's after spending 4Gz on it in the last 2months! = waste of money i know..
I think an original sa63 for $2300 is a VERY good price.
I bought my sa63 for $4200 in 1999 and i had to do ALOT to it and it was the best example i could find.
Now the car owes easily over 20.
Now if u can get a good SA63 for 2300 and dont have to do much then i'd say go for it..
But if you're thinking of doing it up, get ready for the huge $$$s ahead of you. Just try sourcing eurothane bushings for the IRS and you'll see wot i mean, LOL..

I agree with you Streeko. I am like you, did up the SA63 too much before it became a money pit so i passed it to my brother and got myself the MA61. The SA63 is a fun little car (and still drive) but you can feel the weight of the car with a full tank of fuel. I have experimented with my SA63 with sterios, dozens of fog lights and other experimental things but kept the 2S-C pretty much stock except having put a racing piston and rings for the sheer hell of it.
There isn't much electrics but as the car gets a little older, less trouble you will come across. Maybe the Aircon may pack itself in (like mine) or the antenna is stuffed but that is it. Looking at bozwon car(on the net) it looks good for the price you are paying.
But when looking at other cars avaliable around. You are paying for the condition.
That is my 2cents.
Cheers.
