Bit of an Intro

Hi, I'm Eddo.
I'm new to this forum so it might take a little while to get used to this. My ride is a 2001 v6 Camry sedan. I have plans to put some mods not it, nothing over the top or heavy. Just a new engine back exhaust, cold air intake, piggy back ecu, body kit, wheels and ICE (in car entertainment). For any of you who own a post wide body shape camry, I've found a place that have very good body kits for them. It looks better than the factory sportivo ones.
Anyway, a bit about me, I'm a 3rd year uni student from usyd studying a degree in health science majoring in rehab counselling.

welcome to toymods!
also, i know a guy in my area who had a 97ish model camry done up. It was white, debadged, bit of a bodykit i think, exhaust, dark windows, no mirrors and some 17's. Everyone thought it looked good and not many people actually knew what it was either!

when u say front and rear struts, do you mean strut braces?
try whiteline, www.whiteline.com.au
why do you want coil overs? I don't think you need to go to that extent in the suspension of your car eddo, its not like your gonna be taking it to the track

i've tried whiteline, they don't have any strut braces for my car.
i was told coilovers were good for cornering, so i thought i might give them a try. but if they are quite expensive, then i'll just go for 1.5" lowered king springs all round and sports shocks all round if feel like it or if i have the money.

Eddo - just my oppinion - but just put thru a decent set of shockies , then springs and bushes , and maybe look at swaybars down the track for the camry - those alone should make your camry handle pretty sweetly .
They handle pretty good to start off from what i hear from friends who have them ( stock and sportivo ) but dont expect to have it outhandling *true* sportscars (ie supras , mx5,stuff like that) for its a family sedan for the most part ( NOTHING HANdLES WORSE THAN A MAGNA! )
( a bit like a Commodore SS or XR facon - they handle well - very well - but are just a family car under the skin)
Whitelines where id be directing you to - they seem to really have the handling packages off the shelf sorted out ..
I had whiteline gear under my old ta22 - and it was a very fun car to drive and handled briskly compared to others id driven in
Havent had or been in a car with Coil overs - but i know they come at a big price

hey, thanx for the advice bro.
i'm not aiming for my camry to handle like a sports car, but just a little better, coz i've only driven stocko family cars and i feel like a bit of a change.
i might give whiteline an email asking where i can get front and rear strut braces for my camry.
does anyone know of any good places that do supercharging??? i've had a look at what Eaton and Capa have in terms of supercharger kits and they all seem expensive and out side NSW. would anyone know if the supercharging place in Brookvale Sydney is any good to go to???

Eddo,
I'm not sure of other superchargers for the 1MZ-FE but the only kit I know is the TRD (kazuma) one they sold in the US but it's useless here unless you drive a LHD car. Master cylinders block the S/C pulley... plus it's for the non VVTi 1MZ-FE which I believe all 1MZ-FE sold in Australia were not (i.e. we got the VVTi).
As for the handling kits, whiteline should have the works. A lot of the Camry boys in the US order the rear sway bar as it's a thicker bar than the TRD ones (from memory 2mm thinner in diameter). This maybe a start to getting the handling you want to get a taste of what you want later.
Coilovers are a waste of money unless you're going to get on the track. As mentioned earlier, just get some decent set of springs (Eibach makes springs for the Camry) and good shocks + harder bushes.

Thanx for tips. Looks like i'll be changing my shopping list a bit. what do bushes do???? I know of Eatons having a s/c for camrys. but i'm not sure if paxton ones are suitable for camrys. i think i'll give whiteline an email about strut bars for camrys.

I'd forget the piggyback ECU. I had one on my SV21 and it made less power across the whole range. Even the GTP Camry with 1MZ-Fe don't use them because they haven't been able to get the engines to make more power out of them.

King Springs are probably the best value for money you can get. And welcome to toymods.

Welcome to toymods.....
The camry actually handles pretty well, put some better springs and shocks and brake pads in and you'll be amazed. Those V6 engines rock as well - and with forced induction would be a true V8 eater. They rev so sweetly and quickly, and once you get used to the FWD can corner very well.
Have the camry's come out with an LSD yet? My parents had a widebody V6 camry auto(easily did 220 kph ) but even with the 144 kw engine would torque steer like a bitch, esp in the wet. If you're upping the power I'd try to get hold of an LSD (that is if toyota made them for that gearbox).

I don't know if they are the absolute best (haven't tried enough different types) but out of pedders lowered (prev owner) stocks (me to get it legal & regoed) and kings (me to get it legal and low ) the kings are by far the best. They are what Neal Bates Auto recommended, and they said they use the full height kings on a lot of the rally cars.

Welcome, and good too see annother camry owner, I managed to get a front strut brace for my SV21 camry so i would have thought it likeley to be able to get one for a newer car, i got mine shipped from the us in a group buy, from megan racing i think.
Those mods sound good and with forced induction would be a commodore/falcon killer.
