Safe Redlining Sat, 19 April 2003 02:42 Go to next message
Just curious, and call me dumb if you want ! Laughing
BUT what can actually make it a bit safer to reach redline? keeping heat down? keeping oil temperate?

like for example if i changed a redline of 7500 to 8200 what starts happening? is it just the obvious fact most of the parts weren't made for these speeds :. just wear down faster?

just a thought,

Thanks!

if your engines designed to run those kind of figures it probly wont hurt it in the short term sense, but when you start doing it every gear it will make our engine wear a lot faster and it will become 'tired'... just make sure you've got plenty of good oil, and keep the temp down it should be fine...

although i cant sand ppl who abuse there engine for no reason, but hey, it keeps mechanics employed:S

keep revving the shit out of will eventually cause problems...namely oil leaking, spun big end bearings...head gaskets and overheating...blown transmissions...the problems will be endless...only push an engine as far as it is designed to go.

Engines generally don't like revs too much - but most decent engines will take a bit extra as a general rule. Try to avoid deceleration with massive revs though, that's even harder than with the engine under load. What engine BTW?

just keep it under redline... why do you need to go over?, you should be getting plenty of torque down low.

sounds like someones got some compensating to do Confused

revving the shit out of an engine is pointless unless you have a cam that will actually USE the revs.

revving a stock cam just gets more and more pointless the higher you go

They have "redlines" for a reason - ie to keep the motor from being stressed beyond its limits

If you go for redline - expect your soon to be aquired motor to be a soon to be in pieces motor with a soon to be expected big ass bill attached to rebuilding it

Yah i understand, only want the GZE for the torque anyway, i was just curious as to what makes it a "little safer" to reach anyway thanks guys
