just a quicky - T50 thrust fork question Sun, 20 April 2003 09:39 Go to next message
ok, in my continuing quest to replace the clutch in my sprinter,

today i tried to replace the thrust bearing. i pulled it off the gearbox input shaft, and only one "fork bit" had a clip that held onto one of the thrust bearing "arms" to pull it back when the clutch is released.

EDIT: i do know that there should be two clips holding the "fork bit" to the slider that the thrust bearing is mounted on.

is this a major cause for concern?

EDIT: that is, only having one clip when i should have two

(could this have contributed to my clutch fking up?? it failed by about a third of the springy "spokes" of the pressure plate bending, not by the friction plate wearing out)

would your average brake/clutch place have these clips available? otherwie ill have to organise a lift to a wrecker/bursons again.

also, i think the thrust bearing is pressed onto the carrier, so ill get it pressed off and the new bearng pressed on when i pick up my flywheel. tightasses only gave me the bearing

Maybe I can make your day by telling you there's 2 clips that hold the bearing to the fork Evil or Very Mad

hmm, no that didn't really make my day, but thanks for the bump.

i know there SHOULD be two clips holding the bearing to the fork (i will go back and edit my original post accordingly), but my question was something along the lines of should i let this worry me too much? car parts are hard for me to get, as my car is out of aciton at the moment.

for example, there is a certain clip that should be involved in my front brake calipers, it isn't there and so far the world is still revolving.

anyone else? in a perfect world, i would go buy two completely new clips, in an even more perfect world whoever replaced the clutch last time wouldn't have lost one. then maybeye i wouldn't have to be fixing it now.

So you live in Melbourne someplace? Whereabouts? I might be able to help you a tad I suppose, should I feel bored/generous.

i live in flemington, but it should be cool, i have a few people who owe me from driving them around while they have been doing dodgy backyard jobs.

thanks for the offer though.

i think i will just buy some new clips, to be on the safe side.

this sucks, i think i picked the wrong weekend to work on this, dropped my flywheel off on thursday, and it will be ready tuesday. ill talk to the dude at race brakes about the clips when i pick up the flywheel, as i have to pick it up some time anyway.

Aargh werll, just figured if you were my nextdoor neighbour or something I might be able to find some bits around the backyard and drop them over.

i'm suffering the same proposition, i have both freaking clips but dunno where they are i'm *guessing* that maybe i'll get them when i get a new release bearing?

otherwise it will be back to EKW again for two more.

hey also interesting there are different clips depending on your clutch fork too apparently...

you won't get the clips with a new release/thrust bearing, at least im pretty sure you wont.

i got a pbr clutch kit, it included:

clutch friction plate

pressure plate

thrust/release bearing (but no bearing carrier, as i saw in the daiken kit a friend got for his pulsar once)

no clips.

I think i have to get the (release) bearing pressed off the bearing carrier and the new one pressed on, i have had enough of bitting bearings with hammers and screwdrivers etc.

by the way, here is the adress of EKWs toyota arm, in case anyone wants to know

TOYO-PRO (ekw)

2-12 cain avenue, east keilor

didn't know about the different clips, i'd just take mine along and find some that are the same. i think i should just buy new ones, but i want to stop giving bursons my money.
