I've been told that the CT26 turbo will handle 1 bar (14.7 psi) safely but only for a short period of time (long enough to have some fun that is). The only thing stopping you to increase the boost up that high is that the computer will probably go into over boost mode and die when you exceed a certain boost level. My supra can only handle max of 12 psi before over boost kicks in.

What mods do you have, have you retourqed the head? If not leave it stock until you have. Once you have up to 10-11psi before the cut with an exhaust. After that depends on what you want and what path you wanna take. Metal Head Gasket, Lexus AFM and 550cc injectors with a hiflow ct26 would be a good streeter at 18psi.
