I am looking at performing a conversion. The idea is to put a 1JZGTE into a RA28 celica. I have seen a similar conversion done before into a TA22 and it goes very hard. Does anyone know how much work is involved in this??? The other motor I have in mind is a 3STGE. Any suggestions or tips???

Tip 1: Have a lot of money to spend
Tip 2: If you love the handling of your 28 then don't go the 1j
Tip 3: If you go the 3sgte route then have even more money put aside than the 1j, the 3sgte's never came in rwd config...
However if you did pull it off you'd have one hell of a screamer whichever engine you did choose
There are posts all over these forums about 1j and 3s conversions so just do a quick search, there's plenty of info out there

to fit the 1JZ-GTE, its a bit of a squeeze, but not impossible. From what im aware, the motor has to be as far back as possible, and even then the radiator has to be moved to underneath the radiator support. I've also heard that the firewall needs some "massaging".
It has been done, but do a little research, measure up the motor and your engine bay and talk to some professionals for some advice.

Paul M from newcastle has this very conversion, and believe me it doesn't stuff up the handling of a 28!! IT is a tight fit but not impossible. Just do your research and if possible, ask around for some pics of pauls car. I have some somewhere, ill try dig them up.

i will have some pics developed soon of a 1JZ in a RA40 that was at the nats.
talking to the owner (forgot his name do'h) he said to clear the steering box he had to shave a bit of meat off the rear turbo housing, otherwise it fits fine.
i also forgot to ask him about the sump so if anyone has his email details could the PM them to me plz
it was the red RA40 coupe parked out the front of both show and shines.

Well this has shed a bit more light on things. Im still as keen as buggery though. Im not really worried about the handling aspect. My celica has flared guards and is running 15x6 at the front and 15x8 at teh rear. It sticks to the road like glue. It has an 18RGEU in it at the moment which is all good but a 1GZGTE is all better. Pics of any conversion like this would be fantastic. Thanks guys
