Well my car has never pulled as hard as it should in 3rd gear and i found out why. It slips! When i put the Tconverer in i stuffed the pump by doing it the wrong way. Anyhow it leaks some oil and has never gone well in 3rd, unlike other 1j's.
Well i have a new gearbox now so it is time to go and fix it and have a strong puller of a car!

PS.. Can someone explain the kick down cable and the advantages of adjusting it. How does it work.. what does doing up do? and what does loosening do?
ok tighten it up it'll "kick down" under smaller chages in throttle position and obviously vice versa,if your like me and srive nomal and when come time to go you just completely put your foot through the floor it wont make much difference...plus i use the auto gear selector when i want to drive hard anyways
the more you pull it the harder it gets... the shift that is
once its all hooked up get someone to put there foot hard on the throttle with the engine off and adjust until theres 1-2mm slack if its too tight ya will rip the end off the cable and with murphys law it will be the end in the auto!
make shure you use threed lock on the torque converter bolts flush your auto trans cooler/fit a new biger one and fill it with oil run it for a day then new filter fresh oil if its a "used" or rebuilt auto and then again every 2 oil changes if you drive it hard and it should last a LONG time i would also consider a filter on the cooler lines and a temp gauge
with that done your box should be good for a long time and your diff should out last 2 manual cars and the engine also lasts longer then a manual one due to not pushing the crank back and forward with the clutch!
