fuel economy of the 1jz

just got back from a trip to victoria. The 1jz has amazing highway fuel economy, considering the size of its balls.
I was getting more than 10km/l (or less than 10L/100km), and that was including the fuel required to get out of sydney, and some thrashing in the back streets of bendigo/ballarat/castlemaine
It may not be a 1g-gte (which gets about 8L/100km from memory) but it's pretty good.
what sort of economy do you guys (both 1j and other) get?

Damn thats pretty good greg!!!
On the way to Dubbo, i used a bit less than 9L/100km, and that was driving failry hard....ask Luke!! (was something like 8.87L/100km)
Now take this into account...it was fully loaded with gear (couldnt see out the back window!), 2 ppl, has aftermarket ECU, and a bucket load of power......i was praying that i would make it on 1 tank...but it only used about 2/3 tank!!!
I was happy to say the least

I never pushed mine more that 550kms... but my tank is only 65L.
I found out my car doesn't speed limit at 180km/hr as well.
but I dont recommend trying that on b-grade roads between bendigo and the hume hwy...

Fuel economy is around the same as you guys, I've just checked out mine, I've done 190kms on 23L so far (mostly city bumper~bumper traffic w/ air conditioning), so far so good... the best I've done is around 550~600km on one tank (ok 3/4 of a full tank, all highway driving)... not bad

I got 12L/100km on the way to Dubbo, then driving around dubbo and half the way back it was 11.7L/100km. Not bad for a 4L! Especially since the 7M was getting around the 16L/100km mark.

I wouldn't call the amount of fuel my Soarer uses as 'economy'
I get 14L/100km at best, and 16L/100km at worst.
This leads me to drive around 410km on 67-ish litres, which I think is awful compared to the V6 Camry I used to drive (11L/100km at worst).
If anyone has any fuel saving tips, I'd be glad to hear them. If anyone suggests to keep my foot off the loud pedal, I've experimented by not using boost for an entire tank of fuel and I get a whopping 10km more out of the tank... big deal. The boot is entirely empty, as is the rest of the car (minus a few CDs), so I can't reduce the weight any more either.

Get your o2 sensor checked. If it was not working then that would cause you to use heaps of fuel regardless of boost.
I suspect mine is out too.
I am getting about 250k's out of $40 worth of fuel, about 50/50 of that is pushing it pretty hard though mixed with doulbe demerrits scared driving.

soarer and matt.. those are awful! yours especially matt.
that's right down there with my celica.
it used about 13-14L/100km, around town and on the highway.
it's wonderful to have nearly tripled the HP, and also improved the fuel economy
what sort of an engine are you running matt?

Simon,
Have you thought about fitting an A'PEXi S-AFC (or an equivalent fuel management system)? People have rave stories about the economy plus slightly improved performance in Soarer TT's. I'm thinking of fitting one myself as well, but probably after I get my exhaust fitted so it's got a chance to make a bigger difference. As I said, with my sort of driving, I'm getting around 450~550km (on my current tank-full anyway), with the sub box and a whole load of other crap in the boot
BTW, does anyone know any places in Sydney where I can get my O2 sensor checked if it's faulty or not? Thinking mine may be a bit faulty but I'm not sure.

draven remember the weight of a car affects the load put on a motor and the ammount of fuel it needs to use. nothing beats a 1g on the highway in an old celica. I got 7.1L per 100k's on the way to byron/brisbane

yeah, htat's waht I was saying... the soarers using more fuel than mine are also carting around 300kg more
as for checking your O2 sensor... I highly recommend advan. have heard nothing but good (and reasonably priced) things about them

Hmmm, might have a go at checking the O2 sensor then. Which one would be more critical to replace, the one in the dump pipe, or the one behind the catalytic convertor ? (Soarers have two O2 sensors).
As for the S-AFC, it doesn't really help for every day driving, as that is done in closed loop mode. The only time a S-AFC would reduce fuel use (if tuned properly) is when accelerating a lot (open loop), so I can't see it saving much fuel with my around town style driving. Thanks for the advice though, much appreciated

the one time i worked out my milage,
4AC sprinter, highway driving
6.2 litres per hundred.
it saves fuel automatically, because if you floor it, you realise you have been flooring it all the time you have owned it.

I got about 6l/100kms in a brand new style rolla 1.8l last time i rented one, was a manual though and mostly highway or country town driving, ie not stop/start stuff.
I was really impressed actually. And the new engine even makes it feel nice to drive despite what feels like would be a heavy car (still had nice crisp handling though)

Hmm... would it make fitting an S-AFC worth fitting then? I usually only do normal Sydney traffic, with a bit of fun driving on the weekends... ?

F^cken showoff.
I get high 6's and low 7's on the freeway.
Average low 10s around town. High 8s and low 9s if I drive like a grandma.
