1g sump swap Wed, 23 April 2003 10:40 Go to next message

hey i have a front sump 1gge that I am hoping to get into an RA40 celica. would just like to know what people think the best option is. can i get a midrear from somewhere (off a 1geu maybe even?) or should i be thinking about cutting up the sump or alternatively swapping the engine X-member.

appreciate any advice

First, put it in and see if it fits. You might be lucky, and break new ground at the same time.

If it doesn't fit, find a mid-rear and sell the valuable front sump!

If you do need a new sump, I may have a mid-rear...

yeah ive hung the engine over the bay and its not going to fit with the front sump as is.
so anyone with a mid rear i would be interested, the front is no use to me.

if u cant source a mid sump, try looking for a TA23 or TT132 crossmember.

they are just as rare but u might be lucky, this will suit your front sump...

The front sump is a MUCH better design (better internal baffling and the wings to prevent leaks) so it might be more worth your while if you're willing to spend the time to look for a TA23 crossmember.
Although it might just be more convenient for you to grab JCMF's mid-rear.

So it is a mid-rear? I don't know the difference between the two other ones (obviously the front-sump is pretty obvious).

Can't really tell.

Have a look here, there are pix of the mid-rear sump.

Well, looking at those pictures, its definetly not a mid-sump and its definetly not a front sump, so it must be a mid-rear! Very Happy

Is the TT132 cross member the same as the TA23? I'm looking at doing the same converting to the 1GGTE which has a front sump into my RA28.

Re: 1g sump swap Tue, 20 May 2003 05:02 Go to previous message
im pretty sure it is...

i was poking around my local wreckers looking for RT132 brakes when i came across this corona liftback, it was a TT132 and had celica brakes on it.

now the RT132 came with an 18R and has a virtually identical chassis to the RA40 (the back seats even line up), so i asked the bloke how much for the Xmember he said $30 so i grabbed it just in case i did another engine swap down the track.

the whole front end running gear was the same as my celica so i reckon theres a good chance it is the same.

but yeah the TT132 is just as rare as the TA23 Confused
