Try some body kit makers like Talon or get them imported.

Yes the 3SGTE will fit but you'd need to check the laws and regulations to see if it's allowed based on the age.

The law says you can't fit an engine that is older than the car. And as far as I know the last 3SGTE available is from 1995 (MR2 GT). So I'd say no you probably can't legally fit one. Maybe you could fit a Lexus 4.0L V8 - now that'd surprise a few HSVs & Rexxies! Cronic front wheel spin but...

Check ou the newcastle laps forums, there is a fella there called camryturbo or something. He has a widebody with gt4 engine. He had to fabricate driveshafts for it and stuff to make it work. Dunno how legal his one is but toyota japan is still making 3s-gte and 3s-ge engines (the current crop of atmo's out of caldina wagons and the like have VVTi etc and would be legal & they go hard!) Speak to toyosport in vic (they have an ad in parts peddler every issue) i spoke to them before my conversion and they'll be able to steer you in the right direction. They are pricy but no doubt they'd do a shmik job, they really know they're biz. For what it's worth, Hope it helps.

would it just be easier to pull out my old engine rebuild it with some forged pistons and internals. strap on celica head of the the 2.2 ltr celica and bolt on a turbo. rather then tyr to find a turbo eninge that will fit and be leagal. plus i don't really want to go from 2.2 to 2ltr even though it would be turbo

The head of the 2.2 Celica engine (5SFE) is the same as on your Camry as far as I know. The 3SGE (2.0litre non turbo from the ST162 Celica) is well known to be a better engine than the 5SFE, so it stands to reason that a 5SFE with a turbo strapped to it won't be as good as a 3SGTE (which is a 3SGE with a turbo) - assuming similar turbo etc. I don't know if there are "G' heads available for the 5SFE, I've never heard of any. Also I don't know what turbo system you could fit - I think it would need lots of custom bits = $$$.

Are you planning on doing the conversion yourself?

if the newer celica's came out in 2.2 ltr woudl the newer gt4's also have came out in 2.2ltr. the only prob with the 3sgte is the age, i would like to have it done legally. no i will find somewhere to convert it 4 me. i have found some kits 4 it. what about a bolt on supercharger or would that just be a waste of time and money???

All GT4s are 2.0litre.
I've no idea what bolt on turbo or supercharger kits are available for a 2.2 5SFE. I've heard of supercharger kits for the old Camry 2.0litre though, so there might be something out there.
This is a guess, but if you're getting a mechanic to do a 3SGTE conversion, I wouldn't be expecting much change out of $10,000 (engine/parts + labour), but am happy to be corrected if anyone has better info.

Just make a 5SGTE

Look here for someone that is doing one on his Celica.

i used to have a 88 model celica and priced the 3sgte engine in it and a manuel conversion for $7000 back on the road. but that was with a celica that came out with the 3sge engine in it already so it wouldn't have been as much work fitting the engine. but the manuel change would have been worth a bit as well and as my camry is already manuel that wouldn't need changing. i will have to enquire with him when i am more serious about getting it done.

Didn't the Caldina still have the 3SGTE up to or even after 97? I'm not sure, but I thought it did...
