AE86 Hilux brake conversion. Thu, 24 April 2003 08:42 Go to next message
Hey guys,
Ive got a few questions for anyone that has done the Peugot/Hilux upgrade on the AE86. The disk fouls the control arm, I think this could be releaved with a hammer, but I was interested to see what other people had done. Also, can the hilux capliper be mounted back to front? Like can the originally left hand hilux caliper be mounted on the right handside of the sprinter? Or do the Hilux calipers have a leading and trailing side? Doing this would bring the brake line and bleeder to the top of the caliper when mounted on the strut, just so the brake line and bleeder would be more protected.

Thanks
Aaron (Sparkle86)

I used a RCA in my setup, or you can try grind the control arm abit to made them fit. I got my caliper's bleeder on top of the caliper, I think that's how they fit in the Hilux.

My calipers have an R and an L cast into them I presumed that this was left and right, But If you are running them the other way around with no probs then it must be ok and I will do the same. I think on the hilux the bleeder is at the top but the caliper is mounted toward the back of the car and not the front as in the AE86. Also what did you do in the way of springs.
Also what is an RCA? Its probly obvious but I often miss these things.

Thanks.

RCA = Roll Center Adjuster
there a 20-30mm block of alloy that goes under the bottome on the strut where the bottom suspention arm bolts up
it restors the factory geometry when u lower the car
(im sure some ppl have a better description of these)

as for springs i think we are both using kingsprings prosports
we both have coil overs as well tho

What camber did you end up with after putting the XT130 strut in? I just measured mine and its about 0 to +1. Is there enough adjustment to correct this in the Sprinter setup?

You may need a adjustable strut top to fix the camber problem. My RCA give -3 camber so I got no problem.

i have written a full article on this topic and will be available on toymods as soon as get my photos developed. i know ive been saying that for about a month now but neh. it covers the spring problem and all the rest. the bleeder nipple is at the top of the calipers already. are you reading left and right as from looking at the front of the car or as from you are in it? cause the left is the passenger side. you may already know this but im just clearing it up incase.
just so you know i had to go custom springs so as to use the sprinter top spring saddle and the corona strut, no cutting and welding and the springs only cost $125 for the pair. but like i said its in the article with a better explenation everything eill be clear soon!
