Custom Ported Sub Box For xA6x Series PRICE DROP!!

edit:
NOW $125!!
I built this about a year ago now, and had it running in my system for 9 days till some prick stole all my audio gear (which i never replaced). Driver has hardly been worked, and never been clipped.
I enginnered this box using an audio engineering program, and it has been designed specifically around the 8" 100WRMS Re/Sponse driver (included) as this driver simply had the best specs compared to even the kenwood/pioneer/jbl/sony speakers i compared it too.
The port in the enclosure (i think - cant remember) is tuned to about 80Hz, and the dynamic range of the box cover (i think) is about 20Hz to 300Hz or so.
Whilst I didnt build this box to be a doof-doof enclosure, it certainly gives the ol kidneys a shake. More so, however, it provides truly excellent bass coverage, and the clarity is damn good. sliding bass runs make your hair stand on end.
Its not a box for those wanting to 'imprezz da ladiez in da street' but if you're after a qualiy sub enclosure, this is pretty damn good.
The enclosure itself is designed to fit PERFECTLY behind the rear seats in a xA6x Celica / Supra. It sits very tightly between the shock towers (note the assembly of the side of the enclosure), and right up against the back of the rear seats.
Im only after $170 including the driver, Sydney only. I can deliver anywhere in Syd for say $20 extra.
Images Below - the first is only 30k, the following three were taken whilst i was buiding it, and are 150k each. I can easliy get more images if you want

So these are the pics of the box you had up ages ago
Looks nice. Do they still make that woofer? The only 8" in their latest catalog is a new low-price Venom one, not a ReSponse
Which program did you use? I want to design a small closed box with the same sort of paradigm, need to test the specs of a few different speakers to see what sort of box I come up with.

stefan...
i just did a hard drive format, so dont have it anymore, but i think it was called 'bandpass' ?? basically for multiple order multiple driver ported bandpass designs. it also covered single sealed, dual sealed, and single/double open ported enclosures...
no, they dont make the driver anymore. I actually got one of the last 4 they had in stock of that model. the guy was actually upset that the line was closing (as it wasnt a good seller being only 8") but the spec on the driver was pretty damn fine. ill see if i can dig up an old cat and copy the specs down...
No-one want to buy this?? its damn good!!
cheers

glen, if you want to buy it for $170, it will be any colour/finish you desire. I will happily do it over in fresh black or grey speaker carpet, or i can paint it any crazy colour you like.
As it is, it is in unfinished MDF. the top panel i did in matt black just to see how it looked, and never got any further - remember i only had it running for 9 days before everything got stolen

Glen, it wasnt designed to have an amp installed in it - BUT the whole front face of the enclosure screws off (its sealed with rubber edging from clarke rubber, so it can be screwed back up and resealed A-OK)- with this in mind its might be possible (depending on the size of the amp) to install it inside.
personally i dont like the idea as amps need air too cool, and i prefer to mount mine under the drivers seat. theres a heap of large core speaker wire running out of the box to reach a fair way to a remote amp.

Thanks. Was that freeware you found on the net, or a proper program?
It's cool about the specs... I have the last 3 years' catalogs anyway. I'd come and look at the box if I were in sydney.
Do you mean under or behind the driver's seat? Not much room for an amp under either seat once the carpet is in. Eventually, my amp will be under a hinged false floor under the carpet in the hatch. It'll be in a fairly large space and get enough ventilation. The Celica GTSs & Supras in the US... well, most of 'em.. got a false floor (big enough to clear a full-sized spare) stock. I've already made the floor, just need to get the hardware from over there.

Please READ posts dude
Hey Ed, which store did you buy the driver from? And do you remember the guy who served you?
I was also a VERY upset man when the powers that be decided that the polycone/carbon fibre 4ohm range would be discontinued, only to be replaced by more "versatile" drivers. That said, the new 15" Precision isn't all that bad
Someone SERIOUSLY needs to buy this woofer and enclosure - there is waaay too much sweat and blood poored into it, and it houses a truly classy woofer. If i had a *A6* i'd fit it!

yep, it sits right up against the back of the rear seats - in between the shock pillars. it fits *perfectly* in there.
mr witzl - i got it from the penrith store. cant remember the guy's name, sorry. but yeah, what a great driver hey! really remarkable output for only a 8". i was going to run two drivers in an isobarik design, but i didnt have enough space for the box volume, plus the dynamic range wouldve been too restricted.
thanks for your comments and youre right - someone SERIOUSLY needs to buy this assembly - now open to offers
cheers

ed that box is fucken huge, another 8" would fit in fine and sound great...im design speaker boxes for a living by the way. Make another bass port in it, and it could easily have another speaker in it.

not with that particular driver Robbo. That driver thrives on that larger sized box, and the perfect tuning of that port. Another woofer would seriously affect the dynamic range and response of the system. IMHO. And the box isn't *that* large really....
Ed, you were either speaking to Jon (dude with glasses), Rick (short dude with dark hair), Jay (very short hair, goofy looking) or possibly even Hendrik (big tall asian dude)
Most of these guys above are the Penriff audio nerds at some point or other. Myself, im just your typical Parra weekend nerd.
Myself, i cleaned up on a pair of the trust old 12" carbon fibre 4 ohm drivers when they got discounted (there is still a few around too!) and built a HUGE 120L vented enclosure for the drivers.... works well enough for me
BUY ED'S BOX DAMMIT!

think it might have been jon (name rings a bell). i sat in his car, he sat in my car, blasted each others gallstones away when the box was done
im down para way reasonably ofen, and drop into the store there a bit, ill have to ask for you next im in. I usually shop at penrith though, and stuart stimpson (is he still there even?) used to me my guy (an old customer of mine from a few years back - cashing in on favours).
and robbo - no, the volume wouldnt suppport another driver. definietly wouldnt support an isobarik assembly.
cheers

work out how many litres the box is and ill tell u if it would work...if its over 50L it would be fine. needs another bass port... I do this everyday, trust me. i design anything from 10" to 2x18" professional subwoofers...all ranging from 200wRMS to 4000wRMS. from 50L to 770L.

there is a hell of a lot of difference between box/woofer combinations of the calibre you are explaining to the one ED has here dude. Trust me and him when we say it would not be good to add another driver, even with another port the tuned frequency and efficiency would go right out the window.
It might work yes, but for the design of this woofer/box combo it would be pointless and a step in the wrong direction. The idea from what i can gather here is that its a low input power, high output high efficiency design.

Ed - exactly how heavy IS this box? I'm guessing too heavy for shipping for me to be reasonable, which is a shame.
Any pics of it installed in your car?

Ed, don't worry about it. If it really is that heavy, i can't have it in my car anyway The installed pics are just a curiosity thing, so really don't do in on my account. But if you're gojng to take them for someone else then i'd like to see them.
I need to find me a nice small sub i can put in a nice small box. Everyhting I try in a speaker sim (say other Jaycar 8-10" stuff) ends up starting to roll off above 100hz, wheras the example drivers that come with that software you gave me the link to - even the 8s - all start a lot lower. Weird.
