MAP sensor / injector swap - what do ppl think? Sun, 27 April 2003 22:26 Go to next message
I am trying to solve the fuel supply issues in my 7AFTE.

Initially i was going to do:
* larger fuel pump (4AGZE)
* Rising rate fuel pressure reg (malpassi 1.7:1)
* 2 extra injectors controlled by greddy rebic2 extra injector controller.

But now I am thinking I might try another suggestion I found on a US website:

* 4AGZE fuel pump
* Swap 1 bar MAP sensor for 2 bar MAP sensor (ex MR2 turbo)
* Install 320cc injectors
* Install rising rate fuel pressure reg (malpassi 1.7:1)

What are peoples thoughts on this? Apparently it works well, but i have not found anyone who has actually done it.

Thanks,

AL

Al,
What ECU are you using? 7AFE Standard needs to be programmed what ever way, swapping things is never a good way of doing it without make the ECU suit the mod's.
Anyway, The best options would be..
Fuel pumps: Bosch Motorsports or a standard Bosch from a 911 or Merc's (S500 or better), these will supply more than enough fuel and will accommidate for future mods. GZE or 7MGTE will also be fine, but the bosch we be the better way to go.
Injectors: 12A rotor, cheapest and biggest, GZE would do, but again, future mods.
Map Sensor: ??? Never tried
Pressure Reg: malpassi-Certainly

Cheers for the reply man.

Yeah im using the factory 7AFE ECU...

I got my hands on a well priced malpassi on the weekend, and can get a ZE fuel pump very easily... so I might go that way in terms of fuel pumps. I asked about an MR2 turbo one at wreckers here and they wanted $250 for it!!! (Wreckers in NZ are such a rip off!).

Have you seen this site: http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/7afe.html

They seem to make and sell 7AFTE kits. Down the bottom of that page they suggest using a 2 bar map sensor and larger injectors... Now if the MAP sensor is only supplying a voltage to the ECU to tell the computer to look up that voltage on a chart which then instructs the injectors to pulse at X rate, then if you installed a 2 bar MAP sensor and injectors to match that sensor (it might be hard getting exactly the right size injectors, but i am assuming someone has tested the 320cc ones with the 2 bar sensor as suggested on thet JGS tools site), then it basically should run almost as if it were a factory setup. (of course i may be fooling myself here and in reality it may not be that simple. One problem i can possibly forsee is that there will be too much fuel at idle)?

Re injectors, I dont think i can use the 365cc ZE ones as they are low impedence. My fact ones I am led to believe are high impedence Wink I think without buying an aftermarket ECU anything substantially larger will just be providing way too much fuel. If only i could get my fact computer re-programmed.. apparently it aint possible though.

If i can get my hands on a 2 bar MAP sensor and a set of 7MGE 320cc injectors cheap enough then i mite give it a try - will be an educating expreience if nothing else. Very Happy
