HiAce Diff Fri, 21 June 2002 04:38 Go to next message
Early 80's Hiace/Liteace diffs. Look large, and a bit like an F series.
What I want to know is where to they hide the ID tags on these things? I cannot find them anywhere. Yes they are still on the car, but they are not on the pillars or in the engine bay.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Malkom

Malkom, they're hidden under the passenger seat. I believe they are a G series, and a lot of really crazy ratios too, like around 5:1!

Every HiAce I've seen had a G series diff centre. As far as I can tell the whole rear end is the same as the Hilux.

LiteAce has F series from what I've seen, and the 4WD ones (rare) have an LSD F diff in the rear axle.

So that means I can use a Torsen for it doesn't it? What about Liteaces? They have a much narrower track than a Hiace. Less shortening to be done.
Any other vehicles that have G diffs, so I can get 3.9? Do you guys have the links for the Toyota diff codes?

The diff you want is a Hilux RN41 (or that era) diff - it is around 1410 mm wide. It is a G series diff, and you could potentially use the Torsen centre in that. All the Hiace ones I have seen are around the 1500 mm mark or perhaps wider Nope . Beware, apparently there are 2 different carriers depending on the ratios:?:. I haven't confirmed this by checking myself....

Liteace diffs are E centres (7.1") - I have never seen one but I understand the Liteace 4WD have an F series LSD in them.

Here's that link for the diff codes, but it's not entirely up to date.

- giantomatoe that link only tells you how to decipher the diff code, it doesnt tell you what diffs were in what vehicles.

You seem to have an amazing knowledge for these things. Ive looked at your website but couldnt find any info. How did you find out so much?
I dont want to have to walk around the wreckers for weeks looking at ID plates - im sure plenty others have done that already.
Can you please share what you know?

Thanks GT, very useful. But I am looking for the list that tells you what comes in what. I have seen it before, but it was on the old forums..... Somewhere.
Did you end up buying the MkII coupe?

There is this one but it's very USA.

Some of these aren't quite right - 1 ton Hiluxes are definitely G series diffs.
