MA-70 steering

hey,
just wondering if any of the MA-70/71 owners out there have had any issues with the steering rack? I've heard it is a typical kinda thing to go wrong.
At the moment my left rubber boot on the rack appears a little damaged and there is a SLIGHT cut which leaks occasionally. The steering feels slightly 'loose' and the power steering fluid level is down a bit.
Does this mean a balljoint needs doing or what? If so, anyone done this recently/know the costs involved?
thanks
terry

I had my ball joints done a little while ago. The problem you may notice is inconsistent steering and a loud clunk from the ball and socket moving apart when you brake/reverse suddenly. They are a real pain as you need a big hammer to get them out (I left it up to the professionals) I don't know the cost because I got all my bushes replaced at the same time.

Jack up the car, grab a big screwdriver, and check out every joint/bush you can see. If anything is loose, looks buggered, or has it's rubber split, replace it. Simple, really!
