Blue slip or engineered 18R-GEU Sun, 04 May 2003 11:11 Go to next message
I've spoken to a few people and I'm getting a mixed answer on weather I need to engineer or just blue slip an 18R-GEU into an RA-28.

What do I need to do??

It is particular to the state the car is rego'd in, you have to find out for sure from RTA nsw i guess for the rules for swaps.
Im currently trying to find out the same information cos i keep hearing mixed comments and stories also. I have almost finished the 18rgeu conversion and all ive done is changed the engine number on my rego. I know it is the dodgy way but im sorry yes thats the path im taking, i dont have the cash right now to approve it even tho it wouldnt be hard, just a hassle (A BIG ONE).

I believe as a rule of thumb you dont have to engineer a car just because it has a replacement DOHC efi head on the same block (for all they know), all it needs is a full roadworthy inspection. BUT, this may include if u have not yet done so changing filler neck to ULP, getting a cat, stock ride-height, rims, tires, steering wheel etc..
I think this is the go in SA and we have fairly strict rulse compared to the eastern states i think..
But it just depends on whether the RTA's book on engines says the 18Rgeu is not compatable or too powerful for a stock ra28, then it mite need engineering, or you could jsut say you put that head on the old 18Rc block.

I'm in NSW and I've heard the same thing about just needing to do all the unleaded stuff. ie filler and cat. however I've also been told that I need to re-do the fuel lines fully upgrade the brakes and stuff like that that worries me.
I'm in a predicament at the moment as in the last week my car went from stock and running well to POS in the front yard.
1st the rear brakes started rubbing metal on metal
the the car started to make some rather loud tapping in the head
then started over heating, and to top it off the exhaust system literally fell off on the way home from work tonight. so rather than put endless money into getting the car back to stock I'm going to put in my 18R-geu I've hav in the gararge.
I need to do the rear brakes so I'm going to go the disc braake upgrade and I'm going to get an exhaust system put in for the new engine. this should stop the hassles I've had with the car but if i need to start upgrading front brakes / fuel line it's going to turn into a rather expensive exersize. I'm going to make some calls tomorrow and find out more, any suggestions on people to call??

P.S can sombody pick up my exhaust pls its somwhere on Windsor rd
cheers
