I think there wasn't any responses due the fact that most of the members of these forums live in the Sydnay area.
And most of the cars are engineered.
Cheers Norm.

just out of curiosity i'd like to compare automotive legistlation between my country and australia. without a doubt this could result to very lenghty reply from someone over there. in a nutshell: what mods don't need engineering and which do? also, what type mods are possible and which are not?
--
for example thesedays over here it is totally impossible to scoop out 1,3 liter engine from an old corolla and replace it with a 2 liter engine - let alone turboed 2 liter engine. we can turbocharge the 1,3 unit but power may increase only a pathetic 25%. that _has_ to be dynoproofed, along with emission compliance. sheesh...

These days it's getting so we have to have every little modification engineer approved, but as for engine power, I don't think it maters how much power you have, as long as the engines capacity isn't over 2.5 times the original weight of the car for turbo'd motors and 3.5 times for N/A. Eg, if the car originally weighed 1000Kg, you could put in a 2.5L turbo motor (2.5x1000Kg=2500cc) or a 3.5L (3.5x1000=33500cc) N/A motor.
There are plenty of exceptions to the rules, but this is the basic. Infact, one of the rules states that unless the power or capacity is being increased by more than 15% no approval is necessary.

3.5 lts per ton for a NA vehicle thats a bit low isnt it that means a 5.7lt commodore can not weigh less than 1628kg and a LH torana with 5.0lt V8 in a car weighing 1250kg wouldnt even pass, and its a "factory" vehicle.

Those rules are only for modified cars, the manufacturers dont have to abide by those.

Could you not bulk up your car with ballast like subwoofers and spoilers, then after engineering, remove them?
