my car has just begun to blow smoke upon start up, and after extended periods of idling (traffic lights etc). when i accel it'll blow smoke for a few seconds then stop until i idle again.
i'm presuming that this is valve stem seals. there were supposed to be done after i bought the motor (45k kms ago) but who knows with import yards and their mechanics?
can i replace the seals without taking the head off? or does it have to come off?
what costs am i looking at? (ball park figure is fine)
unfortunately im fairly sure you would have to pull it off but it depends on if the valve springs are accessable with the head on 90% of toyotas arent.first thing id do is clean the engine breathers.
