Hey guys
Im going to be putting a 13bt into my 79 ke55 corrolla. I was wondering if anybody has seen this been done?
If so how well did the car go? and did the person have much difficulty?
Thanks

NOW we're talking!
Finally, someone with a bit of sense who is replacing the hunk of metal Toyota call an engine with something worthwhile!
I've seen a rotor in a corolla (not sure of the model though) in an old Fast Fours - i'll try to dig it up and see what they did. I think they actually used a 12A but it's very similar so it should help. If it's a rear wheel drive it is doable, it's just a matter of the cost...
Also, have a squiz at the AusRotary forum and ask there. We know about real engines! I am Beena there too.

One more Toyota driver has seen the light and is emerging from the dark side...

Wasn't it that green Corolla where he got the wheel arch flares from a Jap GT spec or something??
The first time I saw that car in a mag it was pretty mental...then it was in another one a few months ago and was even more crazy!
I'b be checking whether its legal as well. I think part of the reason the guy went for a 12A was because a 13B turbo wasn't legal...

A 13B would be illegal in NSW. I think the car has to weigh over 1200kg for a 13B to be a possibility.

Thanks for the info guys.
If you could find the article and scan it for me it would be great.
With not be able to licence it in NSW cos of weight issues, does any one know if they same applies to WA?
Thanks Again

Surely there is a way to get it legally registered. If people are putting V8s in celica surely you put a rotor into a corolla. I thought those capcity/weight figures were only a guideline. The way i saw it was that you could put any motor in any car aslong as it meet certainly requirements. eg chassis flexibility test, brake test

had to dust off the topic ...
im planning on doing the exact same thing, ive seen a few rotors in corollas now and I hear its not too hard, just involving new engine mounts and splitting the tunnel shaft and widening it ...
im looking to run about 180rwkw through a series 4 13B turbo in a rolla, im going to need a major brake upgrade, but what about the Borg Warner diff that they came with? snap like a twig in no time?

Ive got 2 mags, the kermit ke25 with the 12A in it, with the flares, which the fella uses as a race car, and another one, 12A in a pimpish KE30. Both fit snug as a bug in a rug!go for the 13b, no guts no glory. If only i had the money.Tassie is fairly flexable, but u need money 2 do stuff!

yeah all im really worried about is brakes and diff, the rest is easy stuff, victoria is very sweet with engineering, u can put anything in anything as long as it is safe
seems theres a lot more KE30's around than KE55's ...im not really too fussed cause you can pick up either in good nick for about 1k but when i heard theres a BW diff in the KE55's i wanted to know if it was tuff... *cougH*
this guys done pretty well with his conversion
http://www.badrotor.co.nz/featurebrad.htm
and ill definately be going the S4/S5 rx7 13b turbo

There was an article on doing this swap in Hot4s years ago when they used to have the crazy conversions section. I think this swap was done in SA though. I talked to an engineer about putting a 13B 6 port in my KE55 and he reckoned it was too big too.
Depends which engineer you get though..... I'd like to know how some guys get 13B turbo R100's registered!

It seems (from what I hear) that it very much depends on the engineer, who effectively has the final say. I heard that the RTA started clamping down on the guys doing insane 1UZ-FE into Clubman conversions - until the engineers declared the vehicle as safe, then the RTA had no choice but to pass it.
This is, however, hearsay, and may have changed by now...

that KE30 on that site makes it look almost too easy!
Im really not worried about engineering ... i mean there are R100's with 13bt's registered around here and they would be nearly 100kg lighter still!

I am in the final stages of wacking a 13BT into my TA22 Celica. I am using a Series 6 motor which is a PITA to mount. If you have any questions, just shoot me an email and i will help ya out.
You can keep track of the progress at my website:

Yeah i had a look at your website, looks very nice! did contemplate the TA22 ... but this guy around the corner from me has one so it cant be done
Hope to not have to go through as much as you to get a scrotor in there!
like i said i dont plan to have as much power as you, nor for it to be a show car, just a daily fried get around with the stock s4/s5 turbo
still im gonna need something to help it stop ... would brakes off a bigger toyota be not-too-hard fit ie cressida or supra?

well, 364 days later, the conversion is looking set to happen fairly soon
rotorworx can handle the fitment & tuning of a S4/S5 13BT+gearbox and hilux diff, ill need to raise the tranny tunnel a bit to fit the gearbox in tho ...
still not sure what kinda brakes to use tho, im told that with a 13B under the bonnet, the cars overall weight wont really increase much over the stock 4K motor ... yet im sure it will need fairly beefy brakes for a ~900kg car to go from 50hp, to 300hp
so whats an easy fit for brakes that will allow the car to be engineered in victoria? also wouldnt mind changing the stud pattern to something fairly common for easy mag selection...
thanks
