3sg(t)e? Thu, 08 May 2003 23:34 Go to next message
gday

found a 3s motor when i was walking past a bp servo, the toyota twin cam caught the corner of my eye, so i asked about it and ending up taking it away for free

how do i tell if its a 3sge or a 3sgte ?...and is there a easy way to know which year it is ?...the bp guy was clueless he said it came out of a celica and cant remember if it was turbo'd or what was wrong with it....no worries for me i would have rebuilt it to my specs even if i got it from a jap store

I'm assuming the exhaust manifold isn't there...

And the 3S on the cam cover is missing...

the S series came with timing belt, i assume thats a typo

try looking for turbo oil return lines or maybe take the sump off and look for oil squirters

is it a definite GE head could it be an FE?

yeah its a GE the cam distance is very spaced out and there is what looks to be a oil return line, but as i dont know the 3s very well id only be guessing, so ill rip the sump off later and look for the squirters then !

cheers a lot!

Have a look at the left side of the sump If it is a 3SGTE it will have a oil drainback fitting which is a short pipe about 22mm round also on the left of the block at the back there will be 2 large threaded holes where the oil pipes from the oil cooler went.
