gday
found a 3s motor when i was walking past a bp servo, the toyota twin cam caught the corner of my eye, so i asked about it and ending up taking it away for free
how do i tell if its a 3sge or a 3sgte ?...and is there a easy way to know which year it is ?...the bp guy was clueless he said it came out of a celica and cant remember if it was turbo'd or what was wrong with it....no worries for me i would have rebuilt it to my specs even if i got it from a jap store

I'm assuming the exhaust manifold isn't there...
And the 3S on the cam cover is missing...

lol the turbo isnt there !
and the timing cover is missing as well as the timing chain, so im guessing its just seized or the chain snapped, havnt got around to taking it apart yet but dont want to turn the crank until i go the head off
the bitch didnt mention the sump plug was missing either !!...so when we picked it up to put in the back of the hilux oil was everywhere and the mechanic just watches with a blank stare, oh well
he had a 18r and a 4a there also he said i could have

the S series came with timing belt, i assume thats a typo
try looking for turbo oil return lines or maybe take the sump off and look for oil squirters
is it a definite GE head could it be an FE?

yeah its a GE the cam distance is very spaced out and there is what looks to be a oil return line, but as i dont know the 3s very well id only be guessing, so ill rip the sump off later and look for the squirters then !
cheers a lot!

Have a look at the left side of the sump If it is a 3SGTE it will have a oil drainback fitting which is a short pipe about 22mm round also on the left of the block at the back there will be 2 large threaded holes where the oil pipes from the oil cooler went.
