TA22 air cleaner gasket/seal? Sun, 23 June 2002 00:33 Go to next message
Just need to know where I can get the standard gasket/seal that sits under the lid of the standard TA22 air cleaner lid. I could re-use the old one but perfection wins every time. You will find it glued inside the aircleaner lid. It appears to made out of a cork/mesh material (very strange) Also wheres the best nut/bolt shop in the south Sydney area. I need 3 split pins for the air cleaner latches.

Justin

wait to you see this sick stock aircleaner, talk about bolt on power.................not!

We've had words before Mr Cool1, when your paint is as good as mine we'll start a proper argument. Till then I need input and answers not bullshit and dribble!

Hi Justin, i think that repco would be able to getit for you. They usually supply all the original gaskets for early Celica engines. (ive had no trouble getting them from them.) Otherwise try Toyota.

or you could go get some gasket paper.... most places stock various thickness cork or rubber, quite cheap and considering you've got the original it shouldn't be too hard to cut out.

Looks like making one could be the go. Mind you the old one isn't to bad after looking at it today in day light. Repco and Toyota don't have one by the way, I called this arvo to check.

I think i may have a spare paper one down south - i can remeber seeing a round paper gasket thing when i got my stock 2t carby reco'd 2 yrs ago ..

Im pretty sure its in a drawer at my folks place - if you want ill get them to peek for you next time i ring them ..

BTW - justin - are you restoring yours to stock ( concourse ) condition ??

If so - id like to hear more about it - Also have two stock aircleaners as well for 2t - one that has the indictuion horn thing that goes across the tappet cover to the passender side - the other is one that runs toward the front headlights - Which ones the true original one - just out of curiousity

Thanks guys but I re-used the stock lid gasket and it looks and works fine. I didn't glue it back under the lid, so I put the air cleaner back together upside down to hold it all in place. Its all sweet again and the chrome job looks sweet and well worth the $70. I have finally found a good chrome shop in the south Sydney area so it looks like I'm back in business again.

Stuart,

I wouldn't say my Celica is concouse yet back you have certainly hit the nail on head with my taste in general. I'm a total perfectionist and I spend hours looking for the right part like a lot of other car nuts. I don't use my Celica so its sort of like full scale model for the time being. I'm hoping to find some other fully restored TA22 Celica's in Brisbane next year so we can hang out together and admire our paint jobs together. You probably missed my link I made for the Toymods boys and girls, so go have a look at my little beast and tell me what you think? I'd hate to say whats already been spent but when you look at other cars that are built to the standard/build quality I want, I say another $15K should finish it off. This will probably take me another 6 years or maybe longer, which really sux! I have have plans for different engine and the guys around here have certainly given me some good advise and tips. For the time being I need to get the car ready for the Sydney-Brisbane trip at the end of the year so thats why I fixed the air cleaner.
