Actually, the ad may be stupid, but apart from the whole FWD aspect, the Vectra is probably a better car than the Commodore

Oh, and they're going to achieve 140-150kW through technology Something that Holden is lacking and the Opel designed Vectra has.

Yeah thats what im saying
If they showed HOW they're going to do it with clever, unique technnology thats fine
U dont just blurt out stuff like.....
"lets makle it handle really really good.....and powerful....and fast......and comfortable.....and good looking......and blah blah blah....."
Im sure most manufacters are trying to achieve these things
they sound like 12 yr olds...designing a car
anyone catch my drift

Ever thought that the majority of people who buy a Vectra will be people who care more about style than the way they make the power?

Im not paying out the car.....im paying out the ad

Yeah, I hear you, but dude, it's an ad...If they start talking about multi valves, double overhead camshaft durations, head flow rates and fuel injection maps what the hell will all the soccer mums think??
The ad isn't aimed at you that's all. It's just a shopping trolley. mind you, 150 KW will be a damn fast grocery getter!!
It'll give all the corollas something to chase!!

Yeah, it looks like a pretty shitty car. I wouldn't buy one!
Speaking of adds I found a whole heap of old Bathurst and motor mags from the 70's in the shed and some have add's in them for the TA22's and the RA23's when they were first released. It's also got a price list of all the cars that were out at the time and an article of how successful TA22 GT was in some 24 hour rally in europe.
If I had a scanner I'd post them up her.

Yeah, I'll see what I can do. My friend has a scanner so I might have to go visit her.
One's in the official Bathurst mag '74 (TA22) and then there's one in the '77 Bathurst Mag.
I actually found them because my dad said that he picked up from a Toyota dealer the pamplet to a TA22 when they first came out because he wanted one. Unfortunalty I can't find it, I found one for a FJ Holden though and another for a Ford Zepher.

Yep, My mum went looking at the Vectra's about a year ago and decided that the base model wasn't worth it as it didn't come with a CD player and air con and it was more expensive than a commodore. So she settled for a CD Astra manual, quite a few gran less. ($2000 cheaper for a manual than an auto)

Yeah I have to agree with the sentiment of this post.
That add pisses me right up the wall, down the hall and around the bend.
"wheels that talk to each other". Nissan did it with the passive 4 wheel steer (I think that it was called Yaw control).
Actually they're doughnuts talking to each other.
Another one "I am a clumsy geek, so I want some cup holders!"
They talk about technology, and nothing that they mention hasn't already been done - 10+ years ago.
And they are supposed to be aussies designing something from scratch - The best idea that they had was they started with somebody else design - namely Opel. Aah such is the GM marketing strategy.

I can understand seeing it from the general publics point of view.....but even most ppl would realise that everything they said is already trying to be achieved by other manufacturers...
ie: more powerful V6.....im sure most companies are trying to do better too
cupholders....speaks for itself
the only thing "clever" from a general publics point of view would be the "wheels talking with each other".....and thats called traction control right ???
been done
yes being repetitive rocks

And to the clumsy fruitcake, "your fired and take your cup!!!" ...

Didn't help daewoo. A dog selling a dog of a car. But really, a DOG selling a car has to send some sort of alarm off.
But two chickens under the rocker cover is much better than a dog pretending to be a GPS guidence system.

Hey dude.
147KW of blistering POWA!
Straight from the source:
http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/modelov erview?modelid=2006
I think it's more targetted towards the "nice ride" exective/yuppie, because it's really poor power from a 2 litre turbo.
Heh, read the specs on the website I linked above though. I love the term they use for fartcan:
"Polished stainless steel exhaust extension"

Its not bad for a low boost turbo application. Don't forget that the 200SX only had 147kW and was well liked by pretty much every performance magazine.

though the 200sx's were also rear wheel drive, and coupes. good looking ones at that.
the turbo astra is a step forward for gmh. the vectra ad is absolute rubbish,I agree - from a car nut's point of view.
However, the thing is though, you remember it don't you? score a point for the advertisers. their job is to get you to know about the advertised product. you now know the car has a v6 with decent power, and some gadgets. job done as far as they're concerned.

Obviously it won't be in the same league popularity wise to the S15, but its a step in the right direction.
One other thing though, everyone I've spoken to agrees with me too. Does the Astra Turbo sound like a blender or what?
