4AGZE and thermostat location Sun, 11 May 2003 11:18 Go to next message
my 4AGZE wasnt running a thermostat when i got it, so i bought one to put in then i started wondering where it went? does it go into the water pipe that comes from the block behind the supercharger? would be a pain but i figure i better put it in cause i dont want to be runnign round with the engine cold all the time even tho the previous owner had been but i would suspect this would shorten engine life especially with higher revs and also wouldnt be good for fuel consumption either.
maybe somehow i can get some flanges and mount it in the top raiator hose not that there much room.
thanks.

GZE's run a remote thermostat. In the fwd layout its located on a housing which is bolted to the top of the gearbox. (same as the fwd ge setup.)

I'm pretty sure you could just use a ge setup if you wanted.

thanks mate, i thought that may be the case cause i couldnt see where it could possibly go.
so a normal ge from an sx runs a remote thermostat aswell? if so my problem is solved.only thing is theres about 10cm of hose between the radiator and the head (in a sprinter). and i woud think mounting it in the bottom hose would take longer to warm up also.

I think you'll find that the ge thermostat is on the bottom hose.

Thats how mine is setup...and yes it does take a while to warm up.

Mines in the bottom hose, and it warms up just fine... I just used the GZE thermostat housing in line in the hose.

thats all well and good if you got it Smile
i went to the wreckers today and checked out the thermostat housing on 100kw GE and i dont think i can use it. its rather large with pipes coming of it in all directions rather than being just a straight bit of pipe with flanges.
so if anyone has some gze thermostat flanges let me know Sad

Thats what the gze ones look like. The main inlet and outlet are at an angle of about 45 degrees to each other. I think the only difference is the location of the heater hose which comes out the top of the housing on the ge, but on the gze it is sorta parallel with the main inlet.
