Hey all
My dads ute is stuttering like a hoare when accelerating over the whole range of little to alot of load......and little to alot of acceleration....doesnt matter....as long as there a bit of load
Now its either the transmission or the diff
Im just seeing if i can rule out the diff
Its possible that something is slipping ....maybe a clutchpak is rooted or something....hence it keeps slipping and grabbing slipping grabbing etc....hence the stutter of the whole car and the stutter of the RPM needle
SO yeah what does a blown diff feel like to drive ???

Sounds like it could be a broken tooth on the ring gear... bad news if that's the case.

Its a 99 model Ford Falcon ute......cant remember the exact model.....ill find out when my dad gets home
Cant stand falcons.....we owned a falcon sedan b4 and like clockwork every month we'd have to fork out a few hundred on smoething
So i dunno why they bought another falcon
Thanx For the help guys ill get more info this arvo
I dont see how the diff can be rooted as its auto so there arent any hard launches....and my dad is a VERY conservative driver...when im in the car anyway.....so what else besides hard launches can root a diff ?
Thanx

Why do you think it is a driveline problem???
symptoms sound a lot like the usual XH/G or AU falcon fuel/electrical problems
the two all time most common later model falcon probs to check
1.ignition leads - cross firing is common problem - look for white discolouration where leads touch or are near any metal
2. fuel system (injectors/pressure modulator/etc) is it using exessive fuel??
alternatively
if it has the hydratrak diff, how long ago was the oil changed? and did they replace it with LS oil?
PS if it is dedicated gas or dual fuel - almost certain it is leads or wrong heat range plugs
cheers

Jimmy u are very damn close
well done
i actually should have considered an ignition problem as my car last year had the exact same symptoms and it was the timing of the breaker arm under the dizzy cap...well that was the main culprit anyway
so yeah i should have considered something in the ignition....der
it broke down today and there was no spark at all.....so i dont think its crossfiring but yeah something with the ignition
Thanx Guys

Roll it down a hill with the engine off, see if there's something going *crunch* - although a little feeling should tell you if it's driveline or engine anyway.
If it feels like the diff, grab the tailshaft and turn it over with the wheels in the air, handbrake off and out of gear - is there a lot of free play or horrible crunches in there?

Simple yet affective Mr Shin.....if the symptoms are still there after the ignition problem is sorted out ill sus it out
(why arent i thinking of these simple ideas)
My mechanical logic has dropped.....not learning crap at work
gonna change very soon
Thanx Mani
