as the title states i have a ke35 and i want more power, but the project is on a very tight budget about 1000 all up.
I can get alot of parts and materials cheap and can do all of the work myself.
so what i was wondering is if anyone has done one of these up and
what was the results?
thanks in advance.

you can get a very tidy motor for a grand, def over 100hp.
get 4K block, 3K head (preferably big port) port out the exhaust and clean up the combustion chambers. if a small port, take a couple of mm out of the intakes, but ne careful.
regrind cam, Camtech609 is a very nice cam, i have power from 3500-8000+ and rising. machine rocker towers down by the increase in lift or your rockers will flog out.
buy some bends and weld up a tuned length 4-2-1 manifold, and a 2" exhaust.
get a weber carb such as 34DMS or 32/36 and rejet to suit, using standard manifold and the redline/lynx adaptor.
oh and balance the pistons and rods... the crank is usually good.
that should get you over 100hp for not much cash. i have 105@8000 with same setup, but the intakes are restrictive and slowly decrease torque (for me, above 4500rpm)

Sounds good, but wouldnt that all cost well over a grand? You may be better off finding a 5k with webbers and extractors, could be easily less than $500 (?). We put one one of these in my mates ke35 a few years ago.

oldcorollas, are you still using the stock rods and pistons? How does it sound at 8000rpm???

hmmm, well:
4K block. 0 if you have it, $50 if you don't
ACL 40thou pistons from NASON engine parts (wholesale) about $100
rebuild kit with rod bearings and all seals/gaskets, timing chain, sprockets about $300
bore and hone $100
3K head, usually free, maybe $50
Camtech 609 regrind $125
machining cam towers, maybe $50 if ya don't know someone.
porting, a few $$ (20-50) for a die grinding bit
full exhaust system (that you weld up yourself) including mandrel bends, 2 resonators and muffler $320. (Aus best muffler service)
balancing pistons/rods, free if you can get your hands on a balance.
carb? cheap. jets maybe $40 to get em close....
i'm sure i've forgotten stuff but so far:
$1050ish.
if you have ACL pistons already then you won't need a bore or them, just re-reing it, will be good for maybe 40,000ks if the bores are still ok. take off 50-100 if you don't want a full exhaust, just 1 muffler... and not laser cut flanges etc...
so about a grand, but you can get the blocks and heads free so take off another 100 ro so...
and this is for a fully recoed engine, you could reuse sump gasket, make paper gaskets for timing cover etc, re-use rocker cover gaskety, re-use big end bearings if ya don't need em...
so it can be done cheaper.... or much more expensive.
the main cost is rebore for new pistons, full gasket/bearing/timing kit and full exhaust.

stock rods, balance to within 0.1grams total and end for end (one cap was 7grams out!!) at uni using a dremel
pistons are ACL 40 thou that i got in another motor.. they have maybe 0.5-1mm slop, but still work ok
i have heard that the repco pistons are prone to cracking. i think the same goes for stock pistons (of which some were made by repco too) and i have seen some terrible stock pistons in stock motors!!!
i would recommend the ACL's even tho they have oil slots not holes... and from a warehouse like Nason, are about $100.
the rod bolts are re-used stock ones.
it sounds... good. the intake is noisier than the exhaust, but the valves aren't too bad. machining the towers retains the stock rocker wipe at high lift and i find mine are quieter than stock ones...
yeah, it screams you would have heard it in the KE15 shitbox at dynoday5...

Thanks guys for the reply,I didnt expect so many
informative ideas.
One other concept that I have considered using is a suck through turbo setup.
Can anyone give me some insight on what carby to use and if they have ever done one to a 3k before.
OLDCOROLLAS:Is the reason that u said to use a 3k head on a 4k engine for upping the compression ratio?
if so would using a 4k head on a 3k block lower it and if so is it difficult?
Thanks for any help.
