I'm using Mazda 4 potters on mine, I can find/send you some photos later tonight if you like. Personally I'd use the Mazda ones over Hilux ones to save weight - if you want more braking capacity, use Nissan 4 potters.

mrshin,
what rotors are you using??
and what modifications (ie machining) did you have to do to make them fit??

I only used the Mazda ones because I got them at a near giveaway price Very Happy And I also scored several sets of Nissan ones at an even less credible price, and yes they're well claimed!

Ahh crap, HOW does one attach pictures to their messages?

Rotors are V8 Crown (UZS13x)

Struts are xA6x celica, because they were already on the car and have a fatter stub axle - could PROBABLY work with AE86 ones, haven't had a chance to check. The celica ones bugger up the camber, (MA61 ones would be even worse), using strut tops the best I've got so far is zero camber, need to play with lower arms more to get proper neg camber

Hubs are machined several MM off on the back to accomodate the offset of the rotors

Rotors have had the holes filled and new ones drilled to suit the 4 studs instead of 5

Calipers are RX7 4 potters, attached with a piece of 5/8" plate drilled and tapped (look at the picture)

Tryna think what else needs to be mentioned!

Looks good.

What Dia are those discs? I guess they are 22mm thick to go with the calipers.

What are the spacers under the strut for?

Discs are 280mm - not huge, but big enough for most purposes. I'm using them 24mm thick, the most the calipers will put up with.

Spacers under the strut are roll centre adjusters - to be honest, I'm not entirely convinced of their greatness, must experiment a bit more to see I spose!

Anyone know how hard it would be to fit these calipers onto a XT130 strut, or RA28 strut?

I'm looking at scrapping the hilux calipers for a more light weight setup such as the mazda calipers.

Cheers
Joel

Re: Mazda 4 piston brakes on AE86? Fri, 29 August 2003 08:12 Go to previous message
You can get the RX7 calipers onto an AE86 using an adaptor plate and 180SX rotors. I have written about this before.

Apparently RA40 strut legs are identical to AE86s, apart from the stub axle which is fatter and has a better caliper mounting arrangement, and the spring platform, which can be turned off and replaced with the sprinter one. Inserts will allegedly swap straight over and height/camber is not a problem.

So using RA40 strut leg, AE86 spring and upper, custom adaptor plate, RX7 calipers and finding a suitable disc from the DBA catalog seems to me like a good plan. Not cheap, but good.

Hen

RX7 caliper mount spacing is 158 mm centre to centre
