3rz-fe turbo Mon, 12 May 2003 23:03 Go to next message
Hi all

I've got a 99 model hilux with a 3rz-fe in it and want to turbo it. I've found a couple of kits in the states but by the time I get them here and pay all the taxes etc it may be cheaper to get a custom kit done locally. I figure with all the experience on this board there must be someone who can anyone recommend a good installer (around Syndey or central coast) to build a custom manifold and do the job? Or is there anyone to avoid! It probably would need aftermarket ECU (although one kit in the states doesn't use one - just a bigger fuel pump and larger injectors) and I've read about guys who supercharge these engines and are using the Unichip. Any thoughts?

Thanks

tranth

Hey Mate,

I'd advise talking to Steve Griffith Austomotive over in Gosford - I took my Soarer there for its tune-up. He used to build racing MA70 and JZA80 Supras and knows his stuff!

Good to see some more coasties getting into the turbo scene too Evil or Very Mad

There was one in Zoom mag a few issues back, take a look at the article and see if it gives you any ideas.

Thanks Dan I knew I'd get some good advice here Very Happy
Hey MrShin can you tell me what issue exactly? I don't have it and would have to try to get it on backorder.

Thanks

No worries!

I'd also advise going and talking to Erin in the spare parts department of Toyota in North Gosford - he knows his stuff and also recommended a few places to me while i was rebuilding my engine. If you become a member of Toymods they sometimes let you buy parts at trade price there as well Very Happy

I wouldn't exactly go asking for trade cause Erin allows it.. May get someone in trouble Razz I would ask for Erin specifically...

I dont think Steve Griffiths will do a custom manifold, afaik he is only into services & tune ups? Not sure, talk to Central Coast Turbo Charging, cannot recommend them enough, very very nice people there. I dont think he will build you custom manifolds, but he will definently point you in the right direction. They mainly do Diesel Turbos now.

I would also try Pro Built in Tuggerah/Wyong. I believe they do custom jobs.

Good luck mate ! Very Happy

i've gotten trade price from everyone i've spoken to there *shrug*

Steve won't do the turbo job but will be able to recommend someone, as will Erin

I agree with Pro Built...
