ARE CT20'S WORTH HI-FLOWING? Tue, 13 May 2003 07:11 Go to next message
I HAVE A 3T WITH STOCK TURBO AND WANT SOME EXTRA GRUNT, UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE VERY LITTLE SPACE IN MY ENGINE BAY AND A LARGER TURBO JUST WONT FIT WITHOUT HUGE MODS. IVE TRIED TEST FITTING A CT26 BUT THERES NO WAY IT WILL FIT IN MY TINY MK1 ESCORT BAY. HAS ANYONE HI- FLOWED A CT20 AND HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE DID IT MAKE?
ANY THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
TA

I believe they can be, I've heard of people replacing the wheels with Garrett items, you could probably also look into those abrasive gunks that get pressure pumped through the housing (when disassembled) opening them up and smoothing them out. Chris.

Hows the little escort go with the 3T in it?

My brother has a couple of Mk1 2 doors and I am trying to talk him into a toyo turbo motor or maby a SR20T.

Have you got any pics of the install??

That process is called extrud honing, they pump an abrasive mixture that looks like honey. Its expensive and I think there is only a couple of places across Aust. that do it.

I'd be looking at getting an RB20 Ball bearing turbo and getting it high-flowed coz its a much better turbo, and not that much bigger than the CT20, it should fit too.

Cheers Nilezy

yeah, goes pretty quick considering its so light. Ive got some pics on another computer and will email them to you. Engine bay is vey tight with the 3T and mounting of the supra ma70 cooler took a little bit of work to fit with the pipe work under bonnet. Only owned the car for a few months and love it, would highly recomend doing the conversion if you have an esky.Dont spose you have any parts for a mk1 do you?

arent the RB20 turbos about the same size as a ct26? Ive got a CT26 at home and it definately wont fit as the strut tower is in the way and theres no room to hi or low mount a custom turbo manifold in the escort. Anyone have a hi-flow ct20 on their 3T as im very interested in the difference it made.
thanks

I've actually got both an RB20 and a 3T CT20 turbo lying round - if I get a chance I'll try to compare them

a t28 is nowhere near as big as a ct26 so it will fit in the engine bay
