W57 Rebuild Advice

I have a W57 gearbox from a RA60 sitting on the garage floor waiting for a 1G-GZE engine and going into my RA23. The RA60 was an accident damaged wreck when I scored the 'box so I don't know the history of it.
I need advice please.
Is it worth rebuilding the 'box before I sling it in the car ?
What do I need to rebuild / refresh it ? Bearings, synchro's etc ?
Can I buy a 'kit' of bit to fit this 'box ?
Can I do this myself with my K-mart 14 piece tool kit ?
Can I but these parts (via Toyota ?) and give it to a professional to do and just pay the labour charge ?
What would this take a mechanic in terms of time to do ?
Many thanks.
Mitch.

1) it will be extrememly hard using only the 14pce
2) gearbox restorers are very reasonable price wise, just take the box out yourself to save a lot of money, just take the gear box, not the extension housing or the bellhousing
3) couple of days for a mate of mine to get his EA auto box, i think its less for manual boxes, but to be safe i'll say a week - week and a half tops
4) i'm pretty sure someone sells kits, i've heard about them alot, but have never actually seen one in the flesh (so to speak) i got al my gearbox rebuild bits from a parts place (not that hard when you've got a popular box like the W50, but i'd say the W57 would be just as easy to get parts for

To answer your first question: it's only worth rebuilding if it's stuffed in the first place. Just because the box came out of a wreck doesn't mean the box itself is in need of a rebuild. I'd recommend you chuck it in the car as is, and IF it makes bad noises or gives trouble, pull it out and rebuild it.
