Need help: Injectors and Fuel pump Wed, 14 May 2003 09:16 Go to next message
Thinking of things i can do to the GT4 without having to change the ECU - and seeing im still learning EFI can someone shed some light on this question

If i was to run slightly bigger injectors ( say 500cc's over the stock 450cc ) would i need to change anything like fuel pump to provide feed , or ECU - or would the stocK ecu take into account the greater flow ..

Also does anyone know if the Stock Gt4 ecu can be tweaked in anyway - or piggybacked for minor mods - or i stuck with saving up for something like EMS or an autronic unit ?
Im already running a Fuel pump tweak that allows the pump to run at a constant 13.5v ( or something like that ) instead of varying between 8 - 12 as shown in the gt4 tweak guides across the net

Any help appreciated !

The ecu can adjust mixtures but only within its limitations.

If you run larger injectors fuel presure will drop. There for you would need to change/alter pump or regulator.

Larger injectors on a stock vehicle is going to do nothing for performance. You would need a fair bit of engine work done before injectors are required.

Nah, fuel pressure would not drop unless the max flow rate of the injectors exceeds the max flow rate of the fuel pump, which is highly unlikely.

What are you trying to achieve by "upgrading" the injectors though? All it will do is screw up your mixtures and make the engine run like a bag of shit. Unless you're planning on serious engine upgrades, leave the fuel system alone.

it was a lead up to further mods Norbie - Seeing i cant get any more than 1.0 bar out of the stock ECU - i want to get as much as i can done around the stock block and ECU - before swapping to an aftermarket Unit ..

If it isnt going to give much gain in the short term - ill leave it for now and concerntrate on the intercooler/ highflow turbo
