18RG tuning problems

on my 18RGU with newly rebuilt and tuned carbs, i have a miss under accel, doesn't matter what revs, i can be cruising down the h'way at 3500 rpm, if i accel a small amount it'll bog down and lose 5 k and slowly pick up speed, if i blip the throttle its cool,
dunno, maybe the fuel levels have to come up in the bowl
if i'm cruising at 60k it'll do it, so i cant slowly accel i have to blip it and then accel
HELP
btw: the rebuild was professional

where did you get your webebrs tuned at in brisbane? i need mine tuned as well... mine gives out godo torque and good on excellleration but it will run rough when it idles at the speed you are going... it also idles on stand still really lumpy.. i am suspecting the 2nd carb is way out fo tune or is on its way.... so i wanna tune it and see what happends... the front one i got right but i just cant seem to get the second one right. so yeah i was wondering where you got your carbs tuned at and at what price? they are the solex type you have eh?

If the rebuild and tune was profesional take it back to em and get them to retune it. Sounds like its got the wrong size jets.
Or you can have a jet loose.

The basic kit for the solex (weber look-alike) is around $100 per carb. $500 for both might be a little steep, depending on the work done. If you have the money then take it to someone with a dyno and knows what that are doing.
I have heard of a guy here in Perth (I am sure there is someone in Brisbane who does the same), that actually solders up the jets then re-drills them to suit. All the work is performed with the car on a dyno and with a gas analyser. The work was done on a mates rally car and he could not speak highly enough about the results.

i'm taking the car back to him this wednesday, $500 was for r&r the carbs rebuild them, supply air cleaner skeleton and do the linkages, the job he did was brilliant, but he thought the missing was my leads {OLD}, i got new ones and i got platinum plugs, but it's still there, not nearly as bad tho, but none-the-less it's going back

I had an 18rgu engine in my 78 corona. I tuned it myself and it rab fibe except for a slight miss. Turns out the prob was my brake booster because the booster house connects onto the intake manifold anear number 3 piston. i got new booster and retuned my carbs and it was fine. PS how much and where did u get the engine rebuilt.

I have the same 'flat spot' in my 18RG, never had the spare money to actually have it fixed. I put a vacuum gauge on the engine to monitor what goes on (what causes the problem). When you first open the throttle from cruise, there is a sudden drop in manifold vacuum. This is a result of a low volume intake manifold and four rather large throttle plates. This drop in vacuum results in slower air flow through the carbs. (I know the accelerator pump plunger pushes in fuel as the accelerator is depressed.) The result is a 'flat spot' until the engine picks up revs. Depressing the clutch and giving it a 'blip' will over come the problem as the engine is able to rev up quicker when the clutch is in.
I have kinda got used to it and just drive around it. I am sure that it could be fixed with a bit of time and effort and someone who knows what they are doing with the carbs.
Interesting to see how many other 18RG drivers experience anything like this too.
Cheers all.

you might have a tiny bit to smaller jets in it... my 18rg dont do it at all when i eccelerate liek that i dont really have a problem with my solex's at all they run a lil rich but i tuned it a lil bit more and it got a more even air/ fuel mixture you just gotta spend the time on it and make sure the jets are right i guess
