Dunno about engines, interior has semi-climate control A/C (ie dial up the temp & the vents positions change), front brakes are twin piston floating calipers.
I've heard different reports about whether the brakes are better, I've fitted the calipers to my car. Brake pads are bigger & can't get them from Toyota, but take the old pad to any pad supplier & they can match to the shape.

I can shed some light on this - seeing i have a Aus spec and a good friend has a Jap import St185
Basic differences are more Gizmo's on the inside ( ie electric mirror tilt back things , the climate control - that tends to stuff up , a slightly more aggressive ECU mapping system ( about 5hp power difference ) a few minor interior trim differences ( ie my oz one got velour interior , my friend anthony,s jap spec got cloth, some also came with leather interiors but the leather isnt good quality and tends to crack )
Theres also a " slimline st185 " model that puts the gt4 gear into a standard SX shell - its thinner , and badged as " group A" but its not a REAL group a like the Carlos sainze rallye models. It weight about 11ookg compared to 1400 odd for the
" widebody "
like mine
It ( the slimline ) shares basically the same drivetrain components - less weaker and shorter Driveshafts - whereas the real group A has the Stronger GB , water to air intercooler etc etc - and the better looking bonnet and bodykit
In all respects - your better off sourcing an OZ one - cause 90% of them have a local service record - and you can trace back their histories easier than an unknown owner history from a Jap one.
