4A-FC with supercharger?

Im looking at making my poor old 4A-FC go faster. I have seen full supercharger and intercooler packages for the 4a-gze floating around for about $400. Is it possible to bolt this supercharger on? Will it work?? I know it is not going to compete with a gze but for $400 it would have to be a cheap way to gain more power!!

Nah, it won't just bolt on. You don't have EFI for starters, so trying to make it work with a carby is going to complicate matters.

i think that for the dollar outlay and work required to bolt a 4a-gze supercharger and intercooler kit to your 4a-fc would be equal or greater than the cost of purchasing a complete AE92 or AE101 GZE Front cut.
And then you will have a complete package including everything you need to convert your car... almost

Ok, so what would be involved in getting a supercharger to work on this engine. Other carbie engines like old falcons etc had superchargers without efi so why not this engine. Would it just be a fuel pump upgrade?

its not *just* a fuel pump upgrade... there is a lot more to it than what you might expect.
You would most likely need to do the following:
- reduce compression ratio
- replace existing carby with something that will match fuel supply to air flow, and re-jet to suit
- work out an air bypass valve for the supercharger
- get mounting bracket for supercharger (or make one)
- fuel pressure regulator
- many other things....
the problem with carby is that there is only ONE setting for air/fuel mixture - and hence even after extensive dyno tuning the car would either run like a pig off boost, or on boost, and *possibly* well the other. Tuning (and fitting) a carby to suit the extra air flow would be expensive.
Fuel pressure regulators arent exactly cheap either.
Dude - big old motors are a different story to your simple 1.6L twincam motor, trust a few people when they suggest that it simply would not be cost effective to do.
Even if you did get it all to work - you would still probably have less gains than installing a 100kW 4A-GE (and at double the cost!! )
Buying the front cut is ALWAYS the cheaper option in a corolla. NO BUTS!

Listen to Witzl, the man is right on the money. I've seen people piss money away on small carby engines that were never designed to go fast, and they invariably end up with a disappointing result after outlaying wads of cash. If you want a fast 4A, your most cost-effective option is to do a GZE swap.

DITTO.... Toss the 4AFC... Get the GZE, piss easy conversion for the overall outlay....
