Cars are boring!

Well, what can i say? I went for a ride today on a Kawasaki ZX12r (currently worlds fastest production bike!) My mate has had it for about 6 months and after constant nagging from me, let me take it out for a blat! After getting settled, i rolled the power on, along a straight... Last i seen it was in the 240km/h area! unreal! (disclaimer::::: this was all done at eastern creek!) now iam wondering why i have wasted so much of my time with cars!when with about $13,000 i could have a 9sec road bike! Celica is now going into mothballs (and possible sale!)

Temporary Australians... Haha, I've never heard that one before (sigh). Yeah bikes are dangerous, but cars are more dangerous than planes, and planes are more dangerous than sitting at home doing nothing, and even then someone just might walk into your house and stab you! As I've said before, if you let your fears stop you from doing something you love then you may as well be dead anyway. I wouldn't say cars are boring though! Guys (or girls)who race bikes are Baaaalllllsy, not stupid. Some people reckon driving cars fast is stupid (and that includes on tracks), but who here would agree with that? It all comes down to how much of a girls blouse you are.

bikes are cool toys, if u got the $$$
my cousin had a CBR1100 ( superblack bird ) like the 2nd fastest production bike after the hyabusa, it was insane... he said it was pointless cauz soon as he gave it a bit he was already 150+ over the speed limit, so he traded that in for a 01' gsxr600, got the rims dipped in gold and got yoshimira race pipes on it ( bloody loud )
ohh and he has a twin-turbo soarer aswell as a daily driver, lol =P

it all depends on what you are interested in. hey i love bikes but they have their good sides and bad sides.
good sides
they are faster in stock standard form that any car you would pay the same amount for.
easy to get through traffic on.
they are faster
much more maeauverable than a car
they are faster.
fairly economical on fuel
bad sides
car drivers are attracted to motorbikes
they are faster
not as much fun in the rain as a car
they are faster
not as much impact resistance in a crash
but at the end of the day i will always try and ride bike for the fun of it
just gotta be a person who likes bikes.

some bikers are f******s tho! one was behind me yesterday, had his damn high beams on ( middle of the day) I was doing just over the speed limit, so he sits like 2mm away from my car, swerving from left to right .... no overtaking point so he goes past my car on my drivers side, nilly smashes my mirror and causes an accident...
so I gave that mofo the same treatment back when he was stuck behind a bus, sept for the passing bit =P
I mean, yeh ok u have a fast bike and all, dosent mean you own the frikkan road...

I saw a something this morming inloving a bike! I was getting a lift to work and while we were sitting at the traffic lights, a bike went screaming past us on the left in the bycicle lane. Anyway just up at the lights a car was turning left and the bike hit the car side on. The dude hit the side of the car, bounced off and hit the ground. The driver of the car stopped and got out, and looked at the damage on his car and then went to help the bike rider. From what i saw the bike rider was'nt moving.
Anyway thats my story of the day.

Yogi, a mate of mine has the same idea as you... He loves the bikes but he also has a commodore for when its wet and in teh winter... I think that is a pretty smart idea... Redline, are u sure that his lights were on high beam??? The lights on new bikes come on automatically and they are pretty bright... I love the capable speeds of bikes but I consider them way too dangerous... Outside my dads work one day there was a really bad acco... The road was was single lane but big enough for two... Traffic was banked up from the lights that were ahead and there was a van that was turning through the line of traffic into a driveway... At this point there was a bike that was travelling at an estimated 80 - 90km/h (in a 50 zone)... The bike flew down the left hand side of the traffic just as the van was turning into the driveway... The bike saw the van but it was too late... The bike went straight into the side of the van at around 100km/h and the rider was thrown off the bike and into the side of the van aswell... He then fell to the ground and didn't move... An onlooker went up to the rider, grabbed his hand and yelled "Are you okay" at him... No response... He then yelled again... Still no response... Another bikey came up to him and unstrapped his helmet, being cautious not to move his neck too much... The rider was yelled at a third time... There was still no response... The other bikey took off the dudes helmet... As he started to blood was trickling down his neck... His helmet was completely removed and there was blood everywhere... The ambulance officers pronounced him dead on impact ... Sad story... Hopefully this will say something to all those riders that fly past cars on the inside... SLOW DOWN!!! (I never thought i would say that)...

cars arent boring, motorbikes are too fun!!
if you think you are bored with your car, go out and do a few drifting practises and then tell me youre bored! or just go down to the local dirt road and go nuts, but not too fast, or you'll most likely be peeling your car off a tree, or yourself.

It's probably worth posting a reply to this one as someone who has "been there, done that" I've ridden bikes since the late 80's and that includes everything from an XT200 right thru to a 2000 model CBR1100XX, which I rode from Darwin to Adelaide in October of 2001.
I concur with most of the points raised above, however I would, disagree with the comments re: the dangers of motorcycling...in that, if you ride within your own limits, and practice basic defensive riding techniques, you should be O.K. Some of the examples above refer to people who took unnecessary risks which didn't pay off.

They arn't all fast. Most bikes you can drag no worries.
I got stuck behind a trailbike, (road registered), a week or so ago coming home at night. This guy was lucky to get to 80 flat strap down hill.
Longest drive home ever.
While there are good bike riders out there, I'm constantly having to look out for the fools who want to die. I always keep an extra lookout for bikes and give them a wider clearance than I do cars because I know I'll be the one better off if there was a crash.
See. I know that not all motor bike riders are dicks, but now you all know that not all car drivers are dicks towards bike riders.
But pushbike riders. Grr. Lowest form of life on the road, and the footpath.

my only complaint about the fun of bikes it that you cant just kick the back out for a bit of fun, no 4-wheel drifting ... basically they're great but if you push them past their limits you die.
In a car, if you mess up you might spin out, get too sideways, maybe clip a tree. In a bike you get a 100km/hr ride to hospital in an ambulence.
but as has been said, if you drive within your limits you're fine, unless you meet up with some other idiot on the road who hits you..... then, once again, you get a ride to hospital in an ambo, or maybe a coroner' car

Well, you could combine the dirt with the bike and get a dirt bike. I have a bike that when it's in it's prime, IE clean filter and proper fuel, the thing fly's, reaching reaching it's top speed considerably quicker than most road bikes would to the same speed (roughly 100kmph, NOT their top speed).
I'm a fair advocate of dirt bike riding, given the fact that it's a lot safer, there's no cars to run into you, granted that if you fall off when you are 20ft in the air, then yes you are going to be hurt, but there's no bus coming the other way at 60k/h to run you over. Road bikes just have far to many dangers associated with them when put on the road with cars. However, as yogi was saying, when on the track, they are just as dangerous, maybe even LESS dangerous than CARS whilst on the track, cos if you fly off, you ain't likely to flip over ten times with ~1 tonne of metal flying around you.
And, another thing, I often wonder why people take their pride and joy, IE yogi and his car, into a paddock to effectively make it into a paddock basher?? I've run many a car on the paddock, and they were exactly that, paddock bombs. There'd be no way you'd be finding my $15,000 bundle of joy flying around my top paddock. Too many man hours stuck into that little one.
Anyway, that's my rant, I'm going overseas for a while.

I've had an Ok bike ('85 FJ1100) not a sports bike but it still kicked the shit out of every 4-wheeler I came across on the sunshine coast. I say all you guys bagging on bikes don't knock it until you try it. You see skydivers jumping out of planes, i think that's pretty crazy but I realise there must be something pretty good there for them to do it so I understand in a way. Don't judge until you're stradling 1000+cc on a straight piece of tarmack and you roll the wrist out. You have no idea what you are missing. Even my old bike (which you an pick up now for less than a grand) kept trying to pull your arms off at 245 (I chickened out at that point).
What about the Hayabusa turbo kits. Like 250Kw at the wheels. All up (bike+rider) it should weigh no-more than 300-350 kilos. That would be one hell of a rush. warp factor nine...
Tim.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for what yogi and others have done with their cars, it's good work, but I just wouldn't be game to take all that good work out onto the dirt. I've seen what various rocks and pot holes can do to cars that were only intended for the paddock, let alone cars that weren't. Note to Fat_tony: "I found the bluestone!"

Hey, RA28... I know where you're coming from; I also owned an FJ1100 (for 6 years) and it was easily enough to spank most cars (then and now!)
To give an idea of what the CBR 1100XX is like, take the FJ's acceleration to 230KP/H and then imagine that acceleration going on to around 260-70 (genuine), only harder...
I re-iterate again, the vehicle is only as dangeraous as it's rider (or driver) and their awareness of surrounding vehicles/conditions.

Ok... after reading a few of these replys I think I will change what I said before.... Bikes are Dangerious.... but not because of the way it is driven but the lack of protection would be my main concern.... I have a friend that not tooo long ago got knocked of his bike by a dickhead in a car driving down the bike lane.... I will admitt that there are some bike riders that need a few lessons the the art of safe driving... BUT... I also think that a few car drivers should be a little more conciderate on the road as well. AS someone else has said.... ever thought of sharing the road.... come the end of the day the bike riders are just like us... BUT... they have a passion for 2 wheels and us for 4. Keep Smiling

Ok horror bike stories...
Friend, named "dee" got rear ended by a dickfuck and sandwiched between the car and a truck... total loss on the bike and he is sstill going for x-rays.
Friend named "jay" (theyre good mates) got knocked off his bike by an XF, hit the gutter first, slid, hit a fire hydrant. Loss of a 50c size chunk of meat out of his sshin (and yes i mean right next to the bone)
Another friend (out of euphemisms ) went flat chat around studley park in melb, and ended up in a tree over the side... the tree saved his life.
BUT id still love a bike, regardless of all the horror stories. You hear of worse in cars, but it isnt as well publicisssed. A nice 250 NSR in doohans colors would do me just fine
