Biggest Turbo

YES I've done a search first.
What is the biggest turbo??
I know of the HKS T51R SPL which is the biggest HKS turbo (that I know of) and is rated at 1200hp. http://www.rotaryextreme.com/hks.html
Links with pics, and power output would be great.

I've heard the words "Garret" and "T88" thrown around a lot.

I thought it was the T88 too, I think the Turbonetics Y2K is pretty huge too.

All of the above are tiny compared to large diesel/aircraft applications!

I dont know exact sizes etc but i use to work in both these industries.
The largest aircraft engine with a turbo i ever worked on was 720 cubic inches flat eight which i think equates to about 12 litres their were larger radial engines that i worked on wich were about 1820 cubic inch but these had superchargers.
I think youd have more luck and joy with a turbo designed for a diesel application this is because aircraft generally have a price tag to suit. If you want to investigate price try serches on these engine manufactures and parts distributers

T88-34D is the largest I've seen in a car.
Of course truck turbo's are larger, but would be near useless on a car, since semi-trailers have massive engines (8 litres+) which are required to spool the buggers.
The largest turbine I've ever seen is actually a hydro-electric one at a dam. They measure about 10 metres in diameter, but I don't think any mechanical device in the world could spool one up easily

I'd rather some of the bigger Apex'i or HKS turbos because none of the Trust ones have ball-bearing races, and from the things I've read tend to have a bit more lag for the power they produce.

common misconception that ball bearings make a difference to spool. they dont. the fact that the whole turbo is a new design, the housings and blades, is much more influential than the most obvious marketable difference, the ball bearings.
both turbonetics and garrett make turbos up to and past the 2000hp point, so the 'biggest' turbo for a car is whatever you specify.
sound performance in the states will sell you a turbo for a supra with up to 88mm inducer which will flow over 1500hp, and make over 1000hp at the wheels through an auto box on a dynojet dyno.
diesel turbos are not ideal for performance cars because they are configured for high pressure, into a big diesel engine which turns 2000-2500rpm and makes only maybe 4-550hp. contrast that with a turbo like the greddy T88 (IHI/misubishi turbo), or T51R SPL (garrett turbo with housings cast for hks in japan) which is designed to flow similarly high pressure, but over 1000hp.
the requirements are very different and finding performance is not simply a matter of putting a large turbo from a big engine onto a smaller engine.

The biggest turbo made that I know of is a little on the large side for a car, considering it's bigger than a bloody whole car! I read about this somewhere back when I was doing engineering at uni, used on a diesel engine for power generation, one thing I can remember about the engine itself was it had a stroke of around 95cm (thats CM, not MM!), 12 cylinders, a bore who-knows-how-big, and a massive (or was it a pair?) turbo to assist it to produce 10,000+hp at some unbelieveably low RPM. Of course, look to ocean liners for big engines

most stationary engines, like in powerplants and mine, have turbo's with an impellar size of around 1-1.5m across, so big they actually have they're own oil sump and pump...
the 40tonne trucks ahve a smaller one (bout the size of a small human crouching) and these are rated at about 3000hp i think, all mapped to dilever boost at around 1000rpm to about 2400, which is redline for the big capacity deisals

Well... I read somewhere that the CT26 is the biggest turbo to be put in a production car !?
And as for the truck racing, they pull something like 1000+hp
