AE86 4AGE from AE92

Hello one and all,
Just wondering if anyone here has attempted to swap
the 100kW 4AGE (AE92) into an AE86?
How bad was the headache factor?
& anything to avoid?
I have recently got my hands on a AE86 with a 4AGE
86kW conversion already done, but the engine might
be abit tired. Considering a little bit more poke
and hence the 100kW.
Many thanks
James

You aint gonna feel much more power with a 100kw...
arguably, the 86 kw version feels more revvy, and because of it's bigger ports, responds more like a race engine.
Ever thought of a recon? maybe with some better internals?

What, like this?
A somewhat modified small port, I must admit.

Hiya,
I don't think it's that much harder than any other 16V 4AGE swap, the only real hassle is getting the throttle body on the intake manifold converted to point the other way since you don't have the option of picking up a RWD one. You can use the rear water block off an 86kW as the 100kW ones are longer, but I believe it will still fit if worse comes to worse. If you have any specific questions give me a yell and I'll try my best to answer them. If you check out my thread in the Members listing there's a little bit more info in there.

Hello shcao,
The gains arent that significant with the extra 14kW?
I was hoping that the AE92 4AGE would be a good starting
place to "try" to gain some hp.
A bit of head work, cams, compression and quad throttles
would go a long way. - that the grand plan. No food for
awhile.
I have considered a recon, but not sure if the 100kw
starting point was a better place to kick off from.
The engine that i'm running seems to be abit tired, hence
the rebuild idea. The cars 20th year. Would like to be
able to compete with the Type Rs on track.
Will post some pics soon (of restoration and rebuild),
starts monday.
Regards
James

Hello Bill,
Yes, something like that.
Are you running the small port head?
Something like that would be very nice indeed!
I'm just thinking of the number of instant noodle
boxes that i'm going to have to start buying.
I have contacted ivan tighe (dean tighe actually)
regarding cam selection to develop a good 170.
*hes also mentioned valve springs (more cost)
Hope it all works out.
Thanks for the pic.

Hey Sated,
Just having a jibe at you mate. Good to know you have a good sense of humor.
Anyway, from experience, my impression is that whilst the 88kw are great & revvy engines, the 100kw is ultimately better in terms of acceleration.
It's not a good comparison but my Bluetop can't keep up with Riceboy's Redtop however I put it down to (1) TVIS kinda hampers things anywhere below 4k RPM's on the Bluetop ... it only comes alive after this however the Redtop's a bit more linear not having TVIS of any sort and (2) my engine's not as tuned in that I'm still running stock headers etc.
Granted ... 14kw between the Redtop and Bluetop is not much but they differ greatly in their nature - Bluetop's a lot nicer in town & in traffic.
I was considering a 100kw upgrade however after deliberating on it, I've decided to rebuild my spare 88kw one as I love the nature of them. And found someone who can do it at mate's rates ...
